The Viennese Volksoper is small compared to its operatic rivals but it creates a more intimate atmosphere. The singers for this performance of Mozart's Magic Flute were superb, accompanied by a lively orchestra. Top quality act. It is a bit further out of the centre...More

The Volksoper is a wonderful theatre offering top class productions. And good seats are much more affordable than the Staatsoper. The customers are largely Viennese (rather than tourists) and includes smart immaculately behaved young people, which is lovely to see. Access from the city centre...More

In the city of Vienna, you can find a piece of art at almost every corner. Volksoper is one of the quality attraction for theatre/opera lovers. Over hundred years old ‘People’s Opera’ has nice acoustics and every play that I’ve seen had very aesthetic decoration....More

Went with 2 kid’s 7 and 9 years old and wife and must say it was a great experience for them. The staff was very help and thoughtful. Provided us with special kiddies seats without us asking. The opera house is gorgeous, not the Staatsopera,...More

We went to VolksOper twice during our short sojourn. The VolksOper is perhaps a modest cousin of the Stadt Oper in terms of the architectural aesthetics, the interior decoration, the ticket prices and the ease of getting reasonably priced tickets. Though a bit way off...More

I wanted to see a show but was worried I wouldn't follow the plot as I don't speak German. We elected to see Hansel and Gretel and the story is one we both knew. the Theatre is easy to find and close to the tube...More

Sad to say this was my second choice of opera house to visit and on entering the venue, found it very underwhelming - but not so the performance of Die Fledermaus which I had seen several times before. I missed 75% of the dialogue scenes,...More

For a great price you can enjoy an opera. The popular opera is more accessible in term of price. The décor and costumes are different from the ''official'' opera and that's make it more accessible for all. You should see the kids enjoying every minute...More

Not sure. We got our tickets from the tourist info in centre of Vienna. Which is probably open every day, was very helpful and could tell us which seats were available for both the Volksoper and the Staatsoper.

Agree, smart casual...another tip, take yr own picnic, no need to spend a fortune on purchasing one, although if money no issue, part of the experience, better than booking a restaurant table
