For centuries the Vienna Hofburg was the centre of the Habsburg empire. Today the palace houses three museums which afford historically authentic insights into the traditions and everyday life of the imperial court: The Imperial Apartments with their original furnishings and decoration, the Sisi Museum with its sensitive staging of the empress' life, and the Imperial Silver Collection which contains a comprehensive range of tableware and other utensils used at the imperial court.

The Austrians sure know how to build a big, opulent palace! I think I preferred Schonbrunn to this one, but they’re completely different and the Imperial Palace must be seen too.

I love visiting historical sites when I travel abroad and the Imperial Palace did not disappoint. There are so many exhibits to see, so expect to spend well over an hour exploring. I found the exhibits fascinating and informative.

We arrived around 10.30/11.00. There was a small cue of about 5 minutes. When entering, there were not enough audio guides, so we had to share one. As it was quite busy and we were not really interested in the silvers, we skipped it and...More

This is a lovely complex to walk around with lots of different (fee paying) museum options if that is your bag. It is lovely just to come and see the buildings though - classic Vienna

It is definitely not as impressive as the Schonnbrun, but worth visiting all together. The entrance fee was 14 euros and you also get an audio guide. The first part - the Silver Collection is ok, but at one point you get bored of seeing...More

Seeing this palace from the outside I was so excited to see what the inside was like and unfortunately I was rather disappointed. Although there were some lovely rooms I felt as if I had a much similar experience at the Schoenbrunn Palace. So if...More

Got to see this palace on the last day in Vienna. Hugh and the gardens are beautiful. Some of the fountains remind me of the palace in Russia. Also a must see.

Worth the time to see how they lived and learn the story of the ruling family! Nice self guided audio tour.
