Founded in 1498 by Emperor Maximilian I, this internationally renowned youth choir has been heard around the world ever since. In Vienna, there are two key venues to experience the Vienna Boys Choir: their own concert hall, MuTh, and the Imperial Chapel in the first district. At the MuTh, you will be able to the choir's newest programmes; in addition, the choir regularly presents world music and fully staged children's operas at MuTh. The boys take turns at singing Mass in the Imperial Chapel (Sundays at 9.15 am, September - June; the Chapel is closed in from July to mid-September); note that this is a sung Church service, with the musicians performing on the organ loft, out of sight for most of the service. The boys perform alongside the men of the State Opera Chorus and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. After the service, the boys descend to sing one motet in front of the altar.

There is nothing to compare to listening to the Boys Choir singing a private tour for our very small group, in their own home. The reception afterwards, in which we could chat with the kids was so exciting. I had chills and tears while listening...More

The Sunday morning mass is exactly that...a mass, not a spectacle. We attended on Sunday 20 May. The Choir sung Haydn’s Mass in B Major throughout the mass. They sung from the top at the back of the church, so if you sit at the...More

I didn’t really enjoy this. The chapel is pretty drab and hasn’t benefitted from 19th century “restoration”. We seemed to have the B list of the Vienna boys choir. At least I didn’t have a terrible seat. I was in the “Haus Oratorium” with a...More

The venue is beautiful and historic. The seating is fine for listening, but not good for seeing much of what is going on. A bit pricey and a bit long. A memorable experience, but wouldn’t do it again.

We went to the MuTh to see them perform the Gute Hirten. This event was truely fantastic. We booked in advance and we were completely overwhelmed by their performance. It was a major highlight for us while in Vienna.

Visiting Vienna, you can't miss dwelling into the rich local culture. This choir is a great choice, if you are into choir music (and we are). they perform 2-3 times a week, in a hall just next to the Leopoldstadt station. Getting a ticket is...More

Our family thought it would be great to see and hear the Vienna Boys Choir while in Vienna. We ordered the tickets a month in advance but only could get seats on the third level off to the side. We could not see the boys...More

1. You will not see the Vienna Boys Choir for most of the mass because they are singing from one of the upper floors. I couldn’t tell which floor from my seat, which was in Row 14 from the front. Not a bad view, but...More
