The best view of the city of Salzburg. Lovely Museum and Artifacts inside. Worth every penny! Make sure to take the Incline Car as the walk up is quite long and steep. Needs better map with more details.

The fortress provides a good place for views over the city and the audio tour was brief (which was nice). It didn't take too long. Good experience.

I visited the Festung and stayed inside it's sturdy walls for 3/4 hours on my recent trip through Salzburg. I love this sort of thing and was generally just impressed by this brilliant structure. The streets inside the walls are quite steep so hiking shoes or...More

Been up to the top many times and I’m still impressed by the views. Personally, the parts of the fortress you are allowed to see are boring to me, but there is no better place to see the area than here. I’ve always walked up....More

Take the funicular - you won't regret the spectacular view during your ride. The fortress compile buildings constructed over a prolonged period of ancient times for various purposes, making the structures kind of scattered - that's what I felt. Most of the pavements connecting the...More

A rainy day to Salzberg we found ourselves zooming up the funicular railway (a real highlight) to the fortress. We found the entrance toll a little pricey, but deffo upgrade to the staterooms if you appreciate wooden panelling and treen. Despite the interesting architecture and...More

I don't think admission is free before 10:00 am. Admission for the all inclusive ticket is reduced if you purchase before 10:00. However, if you purchase online, the all inclusive ticket is not as expensive. As well, if you... More
