This architecturally unusual church is built in two parts. The main section, the church proper, is approximately a square. The interior is in Baroque style, a trompe-l’œil fantasy in pinks and greys. The ceiling takes the form of a dome, which was painted in fresco...More

Another Austrian church, interesting stations of the cross and we heard the Haydn organ, the main reason for our visit. Otherwise, not a stand out attraction.

The Bergkirche (Hill Church) in Eisenstadt is one of the most unique buildings I've ever been in. While it is technically a church, and still used by locals, the whole building is designed around a sort of pilgrimage through the various stations of the cross....More

The Bergkirche is historically interesting due to the fact that it houses the burial place of the composer Joseph Haydn. The church building itself seems to be ailing, as a strong odour is presnt in the building.

The walk around this interesting church is a nice change to your normal church visit. A historical place to visit and one of only a few places worth visiting in the town of Eisenstadt.

Went to Grandson's church 'do' recently in the Hadyn church part. Since he lives nearby, we have visited often over the years. The front building is a unique trail up onto the roof via stations of the cross, where you get brilliant views past the...More

Eisenstadt is a cute little town without huge attractions, so we enjoyed all of the smaller ones. Bergkirche was really just a walk-thru visit, but it was pretty. There was not a lot of information in English, but it was very typical of small European...More
