Mdina is a storyline location so the main gate is something that most tourists will visit as you find yourselves wandering the streets and alleyways. Obviously one of those locations which is steeped in history and shown in all the travel books

I suggest you visit Mdina by day for its beautiful sites, museums and sunny cafes. Then another trip Mdina by night for capturing its silence, quent alleys and the beautiful Baroque Gateway which captivates you.

The entrance to the old town of Mdina. The door and the entire fortress wall look very impressive. It is good to know that there are two more entrances to the city

Stone carved statues of lions guarded entrance to the fortified city of Mdina. So cross the built in Baroque style Main Gate and immerse yourself into quiet of the Silent City.

There are other ways into this lovely old city, but this main gate is truly imposing. You approach it across a stone bridge from the other side (Rabat town side) of the deep, defensive dry moat (which looks a nice garden area with high stone walls...More

This gate is very beautiful, with its Baroque architecture. It is a very nice way to start your day in Mdina walking through it. A bit surprising though that there are cars crossing it... which ruins the view a bit. Great photo op !

A grand entrance to the Silent city. Photographic opportunities abound. The horses and carriages add to a time gone by .
