The Full-Day Gozo trip looked ideal and the Jet2 rep said it was one of their most popular.
We were collected by coach (bit shabby and old) and taken the 5 minute ride to the ferry. After a quick crossing we boarded another coach (no improvement on the first one) and set off for the first location as part of the English speaking group.
Ä gantija temple looked promising, but we were rushed through the museum part of the site with very little input from our guide, taken outside to see the actual remains of the temple and then back on the coach. All in about 20 minutes.
We then left for Rabat and a 'show' all about Gozo. This turned out to be in the Citadel (Cinema) Theatre, and not wanting to have to sit through a film and actually see the sites with our own eyes we decided to skip it and do our own thing (as did most people) - this was easily the best part of the day.
After this free time we met up for lunch at the Cittadella restaurant. We tried to sit at a table outside, but were told no and quickly ushered into a small room containing the others from our group. It was hot and sticky (one air conditioning unit for 20+ people) and we were very quickly fed a basic meal - bowl of pasta, chicken leg with potatoes and ice cream. At best worth 15 Euros if feeling generous, but a 'degustation' meal at 25 Euros according to the sign outside. Drinks were on top of this and we spent well over 10 Euros as the room was so hot.
Back to the coach and we ended up sitting in the street with traffic rushing past for 20 minutes waiting for it to turn up. Confusion between the guide and the driver apparently, which seems odd when this is a daily trip they do.
From here we left to go to a craft village. I use 'village' very loosely, as it was a corner shop. A 20 minute stop was cut short as no one was buying anything, so back on the coach and we actually went past the craft village about a half mile down the road from the shop (but didn't stop) on the way to our next sight.
Why take people to see the Azure (Dwejra) window when it actually fell down during a storm in March 2017 I don't know, but when sold the trip we were told you could do a short boat trip instead. No boats were actually running when we visited (it looked like they gave up a long time ago as no one pays to do them) and we were given 20 minutes until departure. Quick toilet stop, photo and back on the coach.
This was our last official stop, but since we had a little extra time before the ferry we went off route so we could view the Blue Lagoon of Comino from a distance to take pictures. After the Rabat free time this was probably the best thing we did, but not actually part of the day. When done we headed for the ferry and back to Malta and our hotel.
I'm not sure where the time actually went, as it definitely wasn't spent seeing the sites of Gozo. The guide we had offered very little input and had to be pushed to provide any knowledge on the sites we were seeing and just seemed to want the day to finish so she could get paid and get home again.
This was easily the worst sightseeing trip I have ever been on in 45 years on this earth and at 59 Euros each for my wife and I plus more than half that for my 8 year old was very expensive for what we got.
I blame myself partly for this day and money wasted as we could have got the ferry for 10 Euros each way and then paid for the hop on/hop off sightseeing bus that actually seemed to go to lots of different destinations around Gozo, but I relied on the Jet2 rep to sell me a worthwhile trip which they definitely failed at.
Save your money and do it yourself. Local buses are 2 Euros for a 2 hour journey and the ferry was 4.5 Euros Adult one way foot passenger (Child 1 Euro I think). Don't waste your money and a whole day of your holiday on this SMS trip as you will regret it.
