We did this tour on our first day in Reykjavik. What an excellent introduction to the food and culture of this fascinating country. Our guides were fun and interesting, and the food experiences ranged from a hot dog to a fine fining restaurant. Small tastes everywhere we tried. Highly recommended.

This tour, led by the entertaining Minty, was a really good start to our holiday in Iceland. We walked around the charming small city of Reykjavik, trying all sorts of Icelandic foods such as lovely fish, the famous hotdogs, lobster taco and lamb soup. Minty told us lots of fun facts, both about the food and Reykjavik. We finished off with the unusual but delicious rye bread ice-cream. This tour offers a range of generous tastes and interesting info. Recommended.

Elizabeth gave us a brilliant tour! While the food was delicious and we got a really good sense of traditional Icelandic cuisine (and lots of it too!), Elizabeth was an added delight. She layered in social and historical context around every dish, answered all of our questions, and gave us great insider tips for finding the best of what Reykjavik has to offer. This is a perfect first-day activity!

We had delicious arctic char, traditional fish stew over sweet Icelandic rye bread, lobster tacos, rye bread ice cream (it was really good!), fermented shark, and lamb stew.
“Noki” our tour guide was awesome. Great energy and seemed to really enjoy his job.

Great selection of iceland native foods, from lamb soup, lobster soup, grilled whale, puffin, cheesecream dessert & even fermented shark. One of the best food tours out there. Great local tour guide with great stories And knowledge. Also best hotdogs on the planet. *****

Fantastic evening spent with our brilliant & knowledgable tour guide Esther. We learnt so much about the food & it’s history. To top it off the food & venues visited were amazing. Can’t recommend enough!

We booked this on our first day, it wasn't what was reviewed. And certainly not something to bring youth on. If anything it was the most peculiar eating experience & this comes with having lived abroad in Asia as well as other parts of the world---predominantly enjoying the variances of each individual culture & their unique food traditions.
Not shy to trying new things, one must still be a bit prepared to eat horse, reindeer & fishy tasting fish, especially when the closest neighbor is the Atlantic Ocean on all sides (why wouldn't the fish be deliciously fresh?). In addition, such an expensive food tour (US$500+ for 2 adults & 1 youth) needs to accommodate for teens & those adults who cannot consume alcohol.
We did not mind the rains or the bitter wind & rather enjoyed the company of our guide (although he left at the final restaurant immediately after we were seated with no one to attend to us). It was strange there was no dessert, no suggestions for coffee houses or questions about our food preferences or alternative options that could have been gentler on the palette upon entering such a magnificent country. It was peculiar we were taken into a grocery on our tour to be shown pickled shark, dried fish & whale meat as an introduction to Iceland-seemingly a gag on unsuspecting foreigners. The entire experience left us defensive & cautious towards Icelandic food for much of our holiday.
Gratefully, as we ventured out independently, we found the wonderful foods! The fish was fresh, the dishes were tasty & the people were truly kind in recommending Icelandic restaurants that were delicious, yet traditional. Information & explanations provided by Icelanders made up for this poor first impression---eating horse & whale to survive, reindeer (aka wild deer) & other common options of beef & lamb. Fresh fruits & vegetables, grown in Iceland, right down to the bananas!
Enjoy Reykjavik's people, their food, the culture & FREE walking tour, but save your money here. Unless you prefer being thrown into the deep end prematurely!

We took this tour on the day we arrived in Reykjavik and I'm so glad we did. We thoroughly enjoyed our wonderful guides who gave us not only a culinary adventure, but also a great tour of the city. The food was all local and delicious, plus the portions were such that by the end we could barely finish our beers at our final stop! I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland.

A lot of fun & food!
Reykjavik Food Tour is the fastest way to experience the real Reykjavik. You get to meet Icelandic people of all ages which tell you their stories and describe their part of the vibrant city. All the restaurants and shops we went to were very interesting and served excellent food. Keep your stomach empty before going on this tour because all in all you will get to eat a lot
