When they say that they deeply care that all their customers walk out of their office with a smile, they really mean it.

As soon as I learned that Iceland was lifting restrictions for vaccinated traveler I booked a 24h stopover in Reykjavik, with the main purpose to go see the volcanic eruption.

I called to book a flight and they did the best they could to squeeze me in at the time I requested while several other companies I talked to simply said they were sold out.

On the day of the flight, the rest of the people that were supposed to be on the same flight canceled last minute, leaving me as the only passenger. Unfortunately my schedule was quite tight and joining a flight at a different time that day was not possible.

Vera took the matter to heart and did everything she could to get approval to operate the flight even if it was with only me onboard. Operational costs of a turbine helicopter are quite high and I doubt that the flight broke even.
This is particularly remarkable, especially after one year and a half of hardship due to the pandemic.

I learned when I came back that finding me a spot in the first place at the only date and time that I was available required quite some work due to the very long waiting list.

Needless to say, the flight was spectacular and I definitely left with a smile!
I really wish them the best, now that tourism is reopening!

I was able to book the Volcano trip for myself and my 12 year old daughter. It took a few emails back and forth over the course of a week since they could not book the volcano tour online (due to be completely swamped with booking requests) Total costs for me and my daughter amounted to $640 USD. Which in retrospect was an absolute BARGAIN for such a memorable experience.

They have free parking in front of their office at Reykavik city airport. We arrived 15 minutes before our flight. A quick check in process then we waited in their comfortable departure lounge with complimentary coffee and beverages. They had a live stream of the volcano playing on a TV.

The pilot greeted us and the other four passengers. then we walked out the blue Airbus helicopter. Flight took off on time and we flew over the city and over an ancient lava field. We circled the volcano on both sides fo the helicopter.

The view out the large helicopter windows was absolutely incredible! We were in speechless awe of the vista. Just look at the attached photos to get an idea of the view. He landed on a nearby hill where we were able to get out and walk around for about 15 minutes. The pilot was amazing, I'm not sure how he was able to land so smoothly when there were 40mph gusts of winds buffeting the hill constantly.

We were lucky to have blue skies, but it was super windy. Took off 15 minutes later, circled the volcano again, then headed back to Reykavik, landing about an hour after our initial departure.

A perfect flight that I highly recommend. Once you get over the initial sticker shock and realize what a once-in-a-lifetime experience this is, I think you'd be remiss if you missed doing this while in Iceland

This review does not pertain to an actual tour but rather the exceptional service of Nordurflug Helicopter Tours. We (a group of 4 from Canada) booked a Nordurflug Helicopter tour, months ago, for April 2020, paid and everything! Given the COVID-19 travel restrictions, etc. we had to cancel our entire trip to Iceland. After cancellation, we contacted NHT to cancel our tour, they immediately gave us a full refund. Throughout this process, the staff (Vera) was extremely courteous, professional and understanding.

We will be re-scheduling, to a later date, our trip to Iceland and Nordurflug Helicopter Tours will be a priority!

Nordurflug requires full payment in advance when booking, even if it is months before your flight, rather than just a deposit. Since they cancel very frequently due to ‘weather’, they should only require a deposit, not full payment months before your flight. Due to fluctuations in exchange rate, my actual refund amounted to $20 US less than I paid.

They canceled on me twice, reportedly because of weather (fog in the volcano area). However I had told them repeatedly both by email and phone that I was interested in doing an alternate tour (geothermal etc) if the volcano was not active or not accessible. However they did not offer any alternate tour. I was re-booked one time and that flight was also canceled by Nordurflug. So I am out $20 due to no fault of mine. If they charged only a deposit before hand, the fluctuation in exchange rate would not have cost me so much.

They are so heavily booked, that it made it difficult to reschedule I was only able to reschedule once and that was also canceled by them. I do wonder if I was actually canceled due to their overbooking, since they didn’t offer any alternative Tours.

Also, the first time they canceled they gave me only a half hour notice via email. Well I was already on my way driving to their facility so did not find out until I arrived that my flight/tour was canceled. They should give more notice as my flight was mid day and so this basically messed up my entire day as far as doing alternate activities. The second time it was canceled they called me about an hour before the flight, so not much better, And still no alternative tour offered. With a few hours notice,I could’ve planned better sightseeing for that day.

Very disappointed in Nordurflug.

Hello, We want to add further to explain how incorrect the commnet is. First the complaint on requesting full payment instead of a deposit. Usually all airlines as for full payment and then they refund the whole amount. Secondly we like any opertor like to fly and earn an income. We only cancel because it´s unsafe or we feel the quality is less than our policy dictates. Think that most of our customers appreciate that we will not fly in unsafe or bad conditions just to earn an income. We are always checking alternatives and also in this case if the author had bothered to ask. Thirdly we have all encountered the issue to rescheduling with any airline and it is never easy. Nothing different with us. Fourthly we are always attempting to fine tune our information to our customers. That means that we alert them in advance if the weather forecast is clear and then we wait until the last moment (30 minutes prior to the flight) to cancel. Thus we are monitoring the conditions until the very last minute and that´s because we feel that the customers are keen to go flying! Weather changes fast in our country and in many, many cases it has improved just on the last minutes. If customers alert us that they want a longer notice then they usually just inform us and we comply but if nothing is said we try our utmost to safely fly our passengers. Fiftly the refund mechanism is automated i.e. the same ISK amount is transferred back so there will always be some currency exchange difference and both ways i.e. in some cases the customer gets more and another less as in this case. It seems that some of us just like to complain such as of a „noisy restaurant“ which is the very nature of restaurants. The pursuit of something to complain about is not enriching our lives, nor is it of value to readers. It´s a much nicer live to find and appreciate if people are just doing their best to make our life more pleasant. Just the very fact that someone is giving more bad reviews than good ones tells a lot on the views on live. No matter how far one tries to service such individuals one runs the risk that the client is never happy.

When we booked this chopper tour it was billed as a 2-hour flight with a landing near the volcano. When we arrived for the flight a month later, it turned out to be 38 mins. with no landing. The fact that were not notified of the changes in advance was very disappointing. The volcano is amazing and at least we saw some lava!

Dear Whitney, I am very surprised by your review and we are sorry you feel this way. It was clearly stated on ou website that the tour is 44.400,isk per person for a 45-60 min tour with one landing (weather dependent) and it was never stated on email communications that the tour was for 2 hours. Unfortunately due to situations that are out of our control after 30.06.2021 we were no longer allowed to land at the eruption site, and instead we started offering a longer time overflying the crater, which makes the total duration for the tour of approx 40-50 min. Nevertheless, our team should have informed you about the no landing changes in a timely manner and give you the chance to decide for yourself if you wanted to do the tour or get a refund, and for this we apologise. Please feel free to contact us if there is anything else we can assist you with. Stay safe and all the best. Best regards, Vera Sales & Marketing Manager

The Backstory:

On my way home to Toronto from Africa I had a 15hrs hour stopover in Iceland, which co-incidentally turned out to be at the same time as the volcano was active!
I looked into ways to see the volcano because I saw it as I was landing and it looked amazing! Turns out there was two options, one was a 20kms round trip hike or a helicopter ride. The hike was 6-8hrs and unfortunately I only had small heels on me as most of my luggage was checked through to Toronto, so therefore if I wanted to see the volcano, helicopter was my only option.
I went online at 11pm when I arrived in Iceland to check out pricing and availability and unfortunately all of the tours were sadly sold out.
The next morning I woke up still thinking about how incredible it was that I was actually in Iceland while there was an active volcano and decided to call the helicopter companies to see if there was a spot. As luck would have it there was one solo spot left at a time that would work for me before my flight. I booked it and headed out to Reikaveick by cab (no uber in Iceland).

The Flight:

I arrived at 10:50 am for our 11:00am flight and met our pilot Lucas after paying and he was very personable . He briefed me on our flight and then myself and the 5 other passengers headed out to our helicopter. As luck would have it with weight distribution I was placed at the window seat behind our pilot.
Lucas is a very skilled pilot and I felt safe at all times which allowed me to focus on the incredible volcano views. I shared the window with the guest beside me. Words don't do justice for this epic once in a lifetime experience! During our flight we flew over the volcano 3 times for each side, then went to see the old volcano that had previously erupted. The flight was approximately 30ish mins and it was absolutely incredible!!!

I highly recommend booking with Nordurflug Helicopter Tours to all!

Our family took the flight to the eruption site with Nordurflug. It was an incredible experience. The reservation staff had to reschedule our flight due to covid restrictions at that time and they did so at the last minute before we were flying into Iceland. They went above and beyond despite being fully booked and some of our physical limitations. Our pilot set us down directly across from the volcano overlooking the valley filled with lava. He took a group photo of us on top even though it was a small and dangerous edge that he had to manuver in order to fit all of us and the helicopter in with the volcano behind. We always felt safe and the view felt like a religious experience at such a close vantage point. The pilot was willing to answer all of our questions and was very fun to fly with. Definitely go with this crew!

This is a superb company. The service is 100% professional, and the overall experience simply can not be any better.

The lady who flew us was friendly and approachable. The equipment was 1st rate (a modern Eurocopter, which is about as good as it gets). Some companies use the Robinson 44, which as a pilot I can tell you I wouldn't get in under any circumstances.

For me....it's Eurocoper or Bell Ranger...both of which are very safe copters (as helicopters go, mind you, lol). You really need to be aware of which helicopter you are putting your family into.....they are NOT all the same.

I really have to say that this company deserves a full 10 out of 10 for pure professionalism across the board. Thanks guys.

I went with my friend from the US to see the active volcano. There are 4 seats in the back and one in front all priced equally (approx 50k ISK). I was located in the back in the middle. We where 4 pax in the back and one in front. What a terrible tour where the people in the back where sitting so tight and cramped that we could not move. It was impossible to enjoy the experience and impossible to take photos even on the phone because you could not move at all. You where stuck ! They call it a sightseeing tour so therefore they should focus on making sure their guests have some view or then at least price the middle seats less. Their CEO told me that sometimes when you are flying with different airlines you are not happy with the seats or the person sitting next too you and you would never ask for a compensations. How can he compare this because these are two different things where airlines are about transportation but helicopters are about fun and sightseeing.

The pilot was nice though and I have nothing bad to say about him. He tried his best and he fully understood our bad experience and asked us to talk to the office.
I sent a complaint and the management sent me a rude and poor email back accusing me of lying and being rude to their staff which is simply not true. I was never rude. Their CEO was on the other hand very rude. Please book with other helicopter companies in Iceland because there are different ones. !

During my stay in Reykjavík I wanted to visit the erupting volcano & get as close as possible to it. I contacted a number of companies in the area & Nordurflug was the only one that replied. Overall communication with them via email was outstanding - the booking process was made simple & exact directions to their location were given. Definitely follow the link to the map they send because the GPS application I used did not lead me to the place where the excursion began.

The experience was everything I had hoped for & one I will never forget. Keep in mind weather can affect on safety or visibility. Another factor is the volcano fluctuates from calm to very active. This company does a good job of monitoring everything necessary & setting proper expectations prior to the flight.
