We have just returned from a fabulous trip from Iceland and I highly recommend using Time Tours.
We booked on their northern light trip for our first night on Sunday 9th Feb, the forecast was good so the trip went ahead but unfortunately despite the efforts of our tour guide Thomas the lights didn’t come out. Thomas was so genuinely disappointed for us all that we didn’t see them and we were back well after the big tour buses who gave up much earlier on.
We were offered a free rebook and decided to book this for Tuesday. With a kp.3 rating and clear skies we saw the lights on each stop! On one of the stops they even started dancing before our eyes, it was really special. This time we were with Runar who took the most incredible photos of us all (see their Facebook page & both groups got amazing photos from Thomas and Runar) that will last a lifetime. They will even send you the high resolution copies of the images.
I highly recommend booking a minibus tour, they can access spots that big buses can’t get to. Also the big buses meet up, and you could be stood with 100s of other people, it just wouldn’t be as special.
Finally a tip, we went out on very cold nights, so when you think you have enough layers on - put even more on!!!!
The hot choc was a lovely touch.

We used Time Tours for two trips yesterday and were really pleased with both.
During the day we went on the Golden Circle tour. Our guide, Thor, was friendly, knowledgeable and funny and provided us with lots of information about Iceland and the places we visited. Pick up was on time, the minibus has USB charging facilties and we had plenty of stops to enjoy the scenery, take photos and get refreshments. A brilliant day!
In the evening we went out on the Northern Lights tour. Our tour had been cancelled the previous night due to a poor forecast and we were immediately given the opportunity to rebook. We travelled in convoy with another Time Tours minibus and found locations away from all of the other tour buses. At the first stop Runar (from the other minibus) offered to show people how to set up cameras to catch the lights. There were still some clouds at this point so we packed up and headed to stop #2. At the start, there was a small arc of light in the sky but over the following hour, this got brighter. Runar was determined that we'd get the best experience and at one point when we got back on the bus having thought we'd had the full experience, he rallied everyone to face the cold and get back off the bus. It was so worth it - the lights filled the sky and started to dance - amazing! Our driver, Martin, was quiet (apparently a new last minute replacement) but friendly and made great hot-chocolate! The team offered to take endless photos of us all in front of the lights. Another fabulous trip!

Fantastic trips to see the Northern Lights.
We went out on first night with Runar, who was fantastic at providing many explanations about the lights, how they are formed and how to look out for them. The weather on first night was not great so we did not see much and were welcome to join the tour again. When we went on the tour next time, we were very lucky and saw an amazing display of lights that was clearly the highlight of our trip in Iceland - many many thanks to Runar for making the experience brilliant and his enthusiasm, and all the photos.
To help manage expectations - it is not fair to judge this trip on whether you see the lights or not. The guide can do their best to get you to the best stop where they think the lights appear, but they can’t make the lights show up. I would have still given the five star review even if we didn’t get very lucky on our second trip, as Runar did absolutely everything possible to make sure we had the best experience. Book this tour as early as possible in your trip to Iceland to make sure you have the chance to go again.

Book with these people!!!! What an amazing service from start to finish. Headed out with Ronni on our first night in Iceland, and sadly didn’t see anything other than some very feint activity. It was still great fun, and Ronni was brilliant - lots and lots of facts, pointing out star formations, even took pictures of the whole group in which the lights showed more prominently. He also helped me to set my DSLR camera to the best settings to capture the lights, and it worked brilliantly.
As we didn’t see the lights we were invited to rebook, which we did successfully for the following two nights - unfortunately the tours didn’t go out due to weather. On our final night we were able to rebook again, headed out with Jean Paul, and the rest was magical....! After seeing the lights beginning to show, JP met up with Ronni and a second bus on a remote road in the South East and we got an amazing show - better than I could have ever hoped for. More photos again (that are emailed to you) and even got chocolate to keep us warm.
Just brilliant from start to finish. Excellent organisation and communication (especially with rebooking etc), and their passion and expertise are unrivalled.
Thank you so much for the trip of a lifetime.

After spending so much time researching the best tour to see the northern lights I picked this tour due to its good reviews . We were In Iceland for 3 nights and two nights were cancelled due to cloud coverage . We went out one of the nights and our tour guide was great and provided us with hot chocolate . Sadly we did not see any northern lights which was disappointing as we were hoping to capture perfect pictures and experience this amazing wonder . It definitely is a let down when this happens as it’s one of our main reasons to visit Iceland . We appreciated the tour guide hard work and help but I thought the cost of the tour especially when we didn’t have the chance to go out another night is quite expensive and perhaps there should be a discount if the person can’t rebook it as it’s a lot of money when you see nothing. It is totally worth it if you do witness the lights I can only imagine . It was a disappointing night but I really believe that if the auroras came out it would have been the highlight of our trip as the tour guide know where to go to spot them .
It’s also a long night so be prepared and wrap up well.
Hopefully we will get the chance the see the lights maybe in Iceland again .

Our guide on another tour booked the Northern lights tour for us with this company, saying that they are the real pros. We almost had no hope of seeing the northern lights during our short stay in Iceland because the conditions were really bad for it: full moon, low magnetic activity, clouds... But we took out chance. Our guide, Runar, was absolutely amazing, truly chasing the lights all around with real determination to find the right time and the right spot: he was constantly checking all the indicators (while also telling us a lot of interesting facts about Northern lights and what they depend on and how they form and what we can expect to see). He made three stops and on the third we did ultimately find the right time and the right spot to see them! We spoke to other people the next day who took a tour with another company the same night and saw nothing, while we not only got to see the lights but also Runar took great shots of all of the people in the group and sent us the pictures (he also helped everyone with settings on their cameras, so we had pictures of our own too!). All in all, despite the lights 'not cooperating' and not being as bright, we did get to see them and that is thanks to the highly knowledgeable and dedicated guide!
Highly recommend this company.

Had Monday to Friday evenings to do small group northern lights tour. I understood small group to mean about 16 people on a minibus with guide, which is what I wanted as opposed to the big coaches. Yes you will be on a minibus but like so many of these companies your minibus will be one in a fleet which will all convoy and disembark at the same spot. So... you may as well save money and go on a coach.
We were cancelled monday, absolutely fine, it was snowing, had trip out tuesday so opted for wednesday. From the information available to me it looked good, KP was 3 or 4 and cloud cover was less than previous nights. Sure enough had confirmation email around 1700 but then another at 1900 cancelling. Did a quick call round other companies and they were sold out and were still going out.
Was a bit perplexed so emailed Runar to ask what was the reason for the cancellation as it looked like a good night and there were confirmed sightings, Received long, angry and quite aggressive response informing me I was wrong and the technology I was using was also wrong, and the other companies only went out because they know lots of them would be flying home on the Thursday and hence wouldn't be able to rebook, seemingly a well known scam.
I was told in no uncertain terms that the app and/or forecast I was using was wrong even tho its the Icelandic Met Office, suggesting that many years of running these tours trumps all of that. I know these guys would like you to think that you just cannot find the aurora without them but that simply isn't true.
Clearly customer service skills and/or the ability to handle constructive criticism have not been honed in all those years as you will see from all the equally assertive responses to reviews on this site,
We had been offered friday night to rebook but unsurprisingly declined and booked a coach tour. Friday night was the only night in 7 the lights made an appearance.
There was a final sting in the tail, even tho I thought my dealings with this company had thankfully ceased, When I arrived home on friday night I received another email from Runar with a link to all the pictures from the friday night tour. This is for people who were on the tour so that they can download the pics that were taken of them on the night. Obviously I wasn't on the tour so presumably this was just some residual spite, bitterness and vindictiveness in a kind of look what you would have seen if you had come on the tour!!
My preference would be to have my own transport so if you are happy with the Winter conditions then I would opt for that. Also if you are visiting iceland in the winter purely to see aurora then you may be better off trying Svalbard or Tromso instead. At the time of writing friends are in Tromso and have had sightings almost every other night without being dependent on tour operators.

We went out on the Northern Lights tour with Ronnie on 6th February. The tour was definitely worth the extra money - Ronnie was super knowledgeable and knew exactly how to find the best spot to see the northern lights. We drove to two different spots and saw the northern lights on both occasions! We were on the tour with about 14 other people and were away from all of the other big tour groups which was nice. Ronnie also took lots of photos and said he will send us them at his next opportunity which was an added bonus and we were given hot chocolate at one of the stops. All in all it was a fantastic experience and I highly recommend it to anyone thinking of going on a northern lights tour.

This was the highlight of our trip. We went out on 28th January in a small group of about 15 in a minibus. Our guide picked us up from a local pickup point and from start to finish looked after the group going out of his way to inform us about the Northern Lights and likelihood of seeing them. Took us to a remote spot well outside Reykjavik and he knew that we were going to be in for a great display that night. We didn't have to move and stayed in the same spot for several hours. The Northern lights soon started to appear and began to grow and get more spectacular throughout the night - utterly amazing. We were very fortunate to be on this tour with such an experienced guide. He went out of his way to take numerous photographs of each of us with the Northern Lights and then sent them to us the following day. Hot chocolate provided but you really need to wrap up warm especially hand and feet!

Ronnie is entertaining and knowledgeable.
We had our first attempt at the northern lights on 26 January but as we only saw very feint glowing we were invited in another tour which we did on 28 January - our last night.
Ronnie found an excellent place to stop, away from any other tour companies. We were so lucky and were treated to about 2 hours of the northern lights. We were all so excited (including Ronnie!)
Ronnie took pictures of us all and emailed them out to us the following day. He also provided us with hot chocolate on the night which was so welcome.
Would absolutely recommend Time Tours over any other company especially the big bus tours - wear lots of layers - you’ll need them.
Thank you Ronnie.

Hi, can I pay by credit or debit card on the bus or is it cash only?
Written October 24, 2019
Yes, we will have a credit card machine on the bus.

The forecast during the time we are in Reykjavik, it’s raining and cloudy. This isn’t ideal weather for Northern Lights, is it worth a try or not?
Written February 22, 2019
It is true that this isn´t the ideal weather for the Northern Lights, however Time Tours Northern Lights manager always evaluates the conditions for the tour each day.
If he believes that is a chance of seeing the lights, like in gaps through the clouds if it is cloudy etc. the tour will be on.
If he comes to the conclusion that there will be no sighting of the Northern lights due to the conditions (such as cloud cover or aurora activity) he will cancel the tour between 5-7pm the latest on the tour day and you will get the chance to reschedule the tour.

How can I make a booking for Northern Lights Tour?
Thank you

Go to their website! They are good in that if there is no chance of seeing them they don’t go out and charge you!
There. Golden circle tour should not be missed!

How much does this cost in US dollars? The website only has it in kr and I’m getting mixed answers when trying to covert it?
Written October 4, 2018
Sorry so slow to respond; haven't looked on here in a while. Anyway, when we went, we booked online and did the tour in March and it was 15200 Krona or about $122 USD. To convert Krona to dollars roughly, multiply by 0.008 or use an online money converter site. When we were shopping in Iceland I just dropped the last 2 digits for a very rough estimate on whether something was an arm and a leg, or just a leg!! Hope this still helps you.

Just make sure you dress warmly especially if the knee will feel cold. I would also be good to have spikes under the shoes if you are coming during the winter when we have snow and ice

RE: the Northern Lights Tour. Is Sept 15th the first available tour? It looks from the booking info that this is the case, but i see reviews that seem to be in real time for this tour. We are visiting the end of August and wondering if this tour will be operating.
Written July 30, 2018
Hi Molly, sry for the late response. Im sorry we start our northern lights tour on 15.Sept. Some reviews have come really late and are from previous tours during the winter time. There are some companies that start as early as 25.aug but in our opinion the chances are really low because of the short darker hours.

HI,
Has end of Sept. first week in October had success in viewing norther lights? understanding you can not guarantee, but curious of % of success.
Thank you, great reviews on your company, very helpful

Hi. We were there end of September last year. The first night was cloud cover so didn't go, the second night we saw them before our tour had even got out of town (amazing!) and they continued for a couple of hours and the following night we were heading back from a different tour about 8.30pm and there they were again :) If you do a tour, go with Time Tours. They really were great and took photo's of us all
