Emil Aaltonen was the founder and owner of a shoe factory in Tampere, Finland. His mansionlike house functions as a museum. It is situated in a very beautiful area, Hill of Pyynikki. The first floor is art museum, with quite small but very good collection of paintings and some sculptures and furniture. Most of the paintings are Finnish masterpieces painted by Pekka Halonen, Albert Edelfeldt, Ferdinand von Wright...a few are European from the cinquecento. The floor upstairs illustrates the history of Aaltonen's shoe factory, plus the metal industry in Tampere, like Lokomo, plastic fabric of Sarvis and even a rarity: submarine of Finnish make. Worth visiting.

A beautiful but small art collection of Emil Aaltonen. There was also another exhibition in the second floor.

What a great Place to visit!!! You can see interesting things, like Lokomo history, great paintings etc. Customer service is absolutely great, and you get ansvers all your questions. And what is best, Tampere region has lot of other great museums and places where visit. I think Tampere city center around "Tammerkoski" is Finland most coolest city center!!!

A small museum full of classic art, especially from the Finnish golden age. Very reasonable entry fee.

Not large, but the museum is in a lovely building and depicts the history of shoe manufacture in Tampere.

Emil Aaltosen started out from very modest beginnings but was a very good businessmen, creating a business that employed thousands and made hundreds of thousands of shoes.

There is a film which in about 10 minutes gives the history of Emil and the business - which you can choose in either Finnish or English
