The cost of entry gives access to all 8 museum/exhibitions housed within this large industrial building. The admissions desk is just behind the entranceway and next to it is a large cloakroom area with lockers available at no extra large. Do be aware the cloakroom is open, so whilst the lockers can be secured with a key, the clothing racks are freely accessible to all. At the admissions desk you get a small A4 coloured map showing the layout and a sticker which you are advised to have clearly visible on your clothing as you walk round to show you have paid.

The building is very open, and it is easily to work out where things are from the 1st floor (ground floor) that you arrive on. There are toilets on this floor together with a large restaurant and lifts to the other floors. The basement floor has ‘Tampere in flames' which is all about the development and history of the fire service. The first floor has the Postal museum, Tampere past and present, Mineral Museum and Tampere 1918 exhibition. The 2nd floor has Tampere museum of Natural History, and The Finnish Museum of Games. The third floor features the Hockey hall of fame (Finland) and Finlayson 200 - From Factory to Brand.

Whilst I didn't visit the third floor, all other areas were really well thought out and put together. I particularly enjoyed the Tampere 1918 exhibition which featured motion detect, triggering surround sound of battle noise in different parts as I was walking round. It made it quite horrifying at times and a lot more real. Lots of objects too, and the lighting was also well thought out.

The gaming museum was also good, perhaps being the most popular area of the museum for kids. There were lots of examples of games from history: board, table, and electronic which takes you over the history of games development right through to the present day. Each game had a small computer that you could essentially play a small part of, such as a level, which compliments the contextual information provided next to it. There is also an arcade room too.

Perhaps the most surprising of all, which I expected to be quite dull, was the postal museum. Entering this from the 2nd floor, I didn't think too much of it at first, as this floor mostly talked of developments in 2000s, which I already know about and seen as I lived through it. The posti adverts were quite comical and I liked watching those. The 1st floor of the museum however really stuck out as it highlighted the perils of delivering post from its infancy, such as the journey across the sea in winter to deliver mail to Sweden during the late 1700s. There were displays of uniforms worn through the ages as well as examples of transportation used. It was quite comprehensive.

The only criticism that I have of Vapriikin Museokeskus is that some parts could do with more information available in different languages. The Tampere 1918 exhibition had about 3 boards in English giving the general historical context, but information of the objects was only available in Finnish. It's not a fully universal criticism however, and you can get by with the amount of English text that is available throughout. As far as I am aware there was no audio guide round.

I really enjoyed my visit here and could easily have spent more time here. 4 hours is a decent amount of time to see mostly everything although you could also spend the best part of a full day here too. The building was clean, well signed, staff friendly (even security staff roaming round between areas), and exhibitions well put together. For what you can see and do the price is very reasonable.

Great center with several museums, such as game museum, postal museum, and several special exhibitions. Proper on-site restaurant. Grocery shops can be found nearby. Highly recommend the game museum where you can try many classic or new games. This center is a must-visit for anyone in Tampere.

Our original plan was to visit the Game museum and though we did, we eventually ended up spending even more time in the other exhibitions, all of which you could access with the same ticket. The Game museum was fun, mostly because you could play all sorts of old games there. It was pretty crowded though, so we ended up spending quite a lot of time in the Postal museum instead. It was a really pleasant surprise and the exhibition was skillfully executed. Also the exhibition was a a lot quieter than the game museum, so you could explore it in peace.

We visited also the Ape exhibition (I think that one was a temporary exhibition) and found it interesting. We had only couple hours of time to explore the whole Vapriikki before our train left and we definitely could have spend there twice the time.

This museum probably has something for everyone. Ten exhibitions in the same building. One of them was a temporary one. Didn't find all of them interesting. The exhibitions I liked the most were minerals, nature and 1918 civil war. The place was hardly any crowded even with students visiting. Managed to spend around four hours there.

We visited Vapriikki in order to see just the Ostia exhibition and check out the ice-hockey museum, but ended up seeing a couple of others too! It's convenient, 'cos with a single (reasonably priced) ticket you get access everywhere. I'm not sure how impressed I was with everything we saw, but at least it' s a nice way to spend an hour or two on a rainy day.

This versatile museum center on the shores of Tammerkoski offers so much to see and experience for everybody. The repertoire includes a dozen exhibitions with themes ranging from history to technology and science.

In addition to the permanent exhibitions, there were several new exhibitions on our visit: Tuesday Dinner – A Food Trip to the Seventies, Finlayson 200 – a factory that became a brand, Ostia - Gateway to Rome, and The Theatre City.
