This memorial to a Finnish soldier was unveiled in Koskipuisto on Tampere Day, October 1, 1971. The moment is made by a known Finnish sculptor Aimo Tukiainen.

The work is not related to any particular event in history, but it symbolically depicts the crushing mechanism of war.

The title Virvatulet refers to the stories told by the soldiers about the ghostly light phenomena seen after the battle broke.
