This striking sculpture by a known Finnish sculptor Viktor Jansson was unveiled in 1921 opposite Alexander Church in Hämeenpuisto.
The statue depicts a naked male figure holding a sword in his raised hand. A 4.2-meter high bronze statue is placed on a 6.5-meter high granite base. This part of Hämeenpuisto surrounding the statue has been named Freedom Square.
Besides his sculptures, Viktor Jansson is also known as the father of Tove Jansson, the author of the worldwide known Moomin books.
