This modern church is magnificent. IT is rather plain on the outside but on entering you are transported upward and made to soar.

We were not confident when we saw the building from the outside first. Looked like many of our own city buildings from the 80's!
But the inside is really worth a visit (prefer not to say anymore for those who have not been there yet) - and going up the stairs is another experience.

From the outside, this concrete church with light yellow tiling looks very unusual and not so pretty.
Kaleva Church was designed by the known Finnish architect couple Raili and Reima Pietilä and was completed in 1966.
It was so slippery and cold outside that we didn't try to find the entrance. I am sure that the interior is more beautiful than the exterior.

The architecture is nice! Especially, if you go inside, the space is so tranquil and beautiful. When I visited last time, the sun came through the windows all over the place, and I could hear the organ playing. So nice! :)

The Church is beautifully located on a hill 10-15 walk from the city center. The original architecture makes it anything different, but immediately allows you to recognize the religious building. Be sure to look at least outside, and enter, if your schedule allows - the Church is open to the public until 18 hours.

Wonderful soaring church building, by Reila and Raili Pietila, completed in 1966. The building is in the shape of a fish, with 18 vast windows providing the illumination. Wonderful pulpit, organ and choir stalls, and major artwork behind the alter, all very much designed as a piece.

Church was completed in 1966. You can find lot of wooden surfaces inside the church. The layout shape resembles a fish, an ancient symbol of Christianity.

Very unusual church, monumental, but you realize it is a church only from inside. Full of light and calm place to have a break and dive into your thoughts.
