A very good presented castle. Ingormative signs. Treasure hunt for small children, stunning views. The prison museum and outdoor museum was well worth the visit. Beautiful.

Kastelholm provided historical context for the unique status of the Åland Islands. It's very accessible as far as medieval buildings go as boardwalks and steps have been added to ease passage. There was a treasure hunt that kids could participate in as well. Attached is...More

We visited the Castle on Sunday, so there was no restaurant or evev a cafe nearby. The castle is repaired and there was a guided tour. Nearby there is a rural museum and an old jail (now museum). Worth visiting while in Åland.
