The main attractions of the library are probably the Silver Bible and Carta Marina, but the exhibit offers a lot more to se. There is no admission to the the exhibition.

The library also caters a café which offers lunch and "fika" as well as vending machines and microwave ovens. There are also lockers available that you can use until the library closes. (Check opening hours at their web site)

The really old collection has to be handled wearing silk gloves and you will probably have to identify yourself as well as pass through a security control just as at the airport and don't forget to leave your bag in a locker...

The library is available to disabled persons and there are free restrooms that can be used (three for disabled).

Important to know: The Exhibition closes at 4pm (at least in October), while the Library closes at 6pm...Our mistake. We arrived at 3:55pm and RAN through the exhibit. (Many thanks to the guys working there for letting us in! We tried to be very respectful of their time.)

Both the Silver Bible and the Carta Marina were very interesting--I took photos and read the information later.

Happy to report the renovation which showed up in other reviews appears to be complete. Only wish I had another hour to spend there.

I walked to the library and was excited to find that it was open. However, the exhibition area and gift shop were closed. Very disappointed.

The University itself has great history but they also have extraordinary exhibits of very old books and letters. Good English explanations.

There was SO much to see. It's the main library of the university and dates back to the mid 1800s. Lots of history to be found inside. The Silver Bible was very much on display as were many other amazing items. Too many to list but do your research before you go so you don't miss a thing!

Went to see the Silver Bible only to discover they are renovating the reading room which the copy is on display. Disappointing but did get to see a copy of it right at the entrance. Look for it in 2019.

Sorry folks, but with the renovation, the Codex Argenteus (sliver bible), the map Carta marina (the first map of the Nordic countries to give details and place names), a first edition copy of Isaac Newtons Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, the Copernicana (part of the library of astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus), and other important items are not on display. Until the restoration is completed, there is no reason to visit. We delayed our departure so that we could tour and were disappointed.

I visited before the much needed renovation. The place is huge and very Swedish. Definitely worth a visit. Has a Nice little cafe open to both students and visitors, but limited opening times.

Right now (october 2017), it is quite messy and you enter through the side entrance - not worth a visit yet but go there when the renovations are over.

Carolina Rediviva is a beautiful building that serves as the main university library in Uppsala. It is a very good study place for the students but also a nice tourist attraction. There is a small but very interesting museum inside, home of Codex Argenteus (the Silver Book) and the Carta Marina, two objects that are worthwhile to see in person. Be careful if you want to visit within 2017 and on, as there is reconstruction work in progress.
