Over 10 days in July, the height of the Danish summer, Copenhagen Jazz Festival transforms the capital and gives it a blue note. The festival presents a varied and exciting catalogue with a plethora of artists and all the genres of the jazz rainbow. The music rings out from from every street corner, park bench, cafe, bar and concert hall, - a “musical supermarket” as one observer once called it. In total, the festival hosts over 1000 concerts with artists from all over the world.

The city turns itself over to jazz each July. There are plenty of places to just stop, chill , listen and take in the atmosphere. Worth making the effort, we did on the Quay three days running after touristy mornings

We timed our visit to Copenhagen specifically so that we could attend the Jazz Festival. We saw everything from Dixieland jazz with banjos to gypsy jazz with a fiddle; soft-spoken scat vocalists to honkingly horrible free-jazz saxophones. There is truly something for every jazz lover...More
