Impressive C13th brick gothic structure in a nice setting with a park behind. The interior shows little in the way of decoration and the walls are bare and white washed. However, the cathedral boasts a stunning altarpiece. The former crypt houses the skeletal remains of St Knud - a little management training may have been of benefit to him and would have avoided his untimely demise at the hands of just about everyone bar the clergy.

Brick built Cathedral with square tower in Odense. Inside a lovely alter piece, old wooden pews, large ornate organ pipes set against a bright white interior.

This cathedral has a very interesting history.
It is named after King Knud, who reigned from 1080 to 1086.
The King was killed on 10 July 1086 after a peasant revolt that took Knud from the northern part of the Kingdom to Odense, ending in Sankt Albani Kirke, which is close by. Here the King was killed by the rebels, together with his brother Benedikt and 17 others.
The cathedral was build in the 13th century but a church was in its place before and one can see the remains in the crypt. There are two reliquaries in the crypt, one being the King Knud and the other his brother.
The magnificent Altarpiece dated from the 1500s and was carved by Claus Berg. It's absolutely beautiful and one can spend a long time looking at it.

As you walk through the village and pass by, don’t hesitate to enter and visit the inside. Not much of a Wow kind of effect but interesting to learn and visit such an ancient church. The skeletons of the king and his brother were the main attraction for us

Odense is a nice place and if wander around the town you most likely would get to its cathedral of St Knuds. In addition it's a birthplace of HC Andersen.

Come here once a month
My last vist in November it was misty
And I really was glad to come in out of the cold
One of the finest Cathedrals in Europe
Sadly some of the stuff was stolen by the Stormtroopers from Hamburg
Well worth a vist

A beautiful cathedral with among other things a fantastic choir triptych, a crypt and historic relics in the form of a murdered king (St Knud).

Big good looking old church on middle of town.
Parking nearby. Go for concerts: many and good. Good acoustics, 3 second reverberation time.

Impressive, unostentatious church with not that glamour of others, makes it worth seeing as there are many others. Long history on Knud is worth understanding.
