The town of Mikro Chorio (Horio) was abandoned in the 1950’s when the wells ran dry and many people moved away to find work on the mainland. It makes for an eerie sight as you approach. The only signs of life now are a church and the restored building that serves as the Mikro Chorio Bar over the summer months.
The area is now mostly inhabited by skiterish goats, who walk around the derelict buildgings like townsfolk going about their daily business. It is certainly a wonderful place to wander. Most houses are just empty shells but there are the occasional signs of habitation, such as a chair or two, suggesting you might wish to stop a while. Perhaps Mikro Chorio is missing its people and is willing them to return. You can walk there from Livadia in about 40mins or take the bus half way. Straight up the main road from Livadia then follow the signs to the Mikro Chorio bar.

Ghost town - deserted stone houses and nothing else. Unpaved road for the last one mile. Only 2 houses may have in summer owners. Bar opens at 11 p.m.

We walked from Livadia - clearly marked old mule trail. Very atmospheric in early autumn- abandoned small town baking in the sun. During the summer there are regular all-night music nights based around a taverna, ending with the sunrise. However when we went it was just us and a few other tourists.

Visited in the day to explore after hiring a scooter really beautiful peaceful place we were the only 2 people there at 1600hrs . Except for the goats who wonder around the narrow paths. Returned on the 2300hrs bus for an Ouzo with the Ghost Town gently lite and music playing watching the Moon. Brilliant a Must in Tilos

Great visit by Day (yet to try by night!) well worth hiring a car - spent half an hour here which was adequate. Signs to it leave something to the imagination, but follow the signs to the bar and ye will find! Take water, suncream and sensible footwear!
