We visited as part of a day trip. The monastery has a lot of history and is very important to the people of Crete who gave a bank holiday every year to commemorate what happened there.
Well worth a visit!
Beautiful, tranquil place and we enjoyed an hour wandering around and enjoying the gardens and the views. However, as we were about to leave we came across a lone ostrich in a small pen. The poor thing is clearly showing signs of distress and loneliness....More
Lovely visit here on a Sunday morning. It was very quiet even though was Sunday. Beautiful world building surrounded by a courtyard. Lovely gardens and exhibitions that displayed lots of memorabilia showing the history. A very modest fee for entry. Very well worth the visit.
For a visit in Crete this is a must! The monastery is interesting to visit and to experience some important site for Cretan history. Unfortunately the site is not really well documents, the little leaflet you get at the entrance does not give much information...More
