There has been a Theatre on this site since the 17th Century, with the Current building dating from 1906, it a great looking building, you can take guided tours, but my itinerary didn't permit the time, but it was certainty worth a Photo-stop.
A really good value tour which walks you through the public and private areas of this elegant theatre.
The building was not only built to present theatrical productions but, in its hay day, as a place to be seen. There are seeping, plush carpeted, stairways...More
We did an escorted tour of the theatre. There was just the two of us. The guide spoke perfect English and took us everywhere: the stage , costume area , props and up above the stage. A wonderful tour well worth it.
Teatro Nacional Sao Joao is an ancient building in Batalha Square. Due to time constraint, we have not paid visit to the internal part of the theatre. It is worthwhile to tour around the area while visiting Porto.
It was just few steps from our hotel. Unfortunately they didn't played anything, but we could visit the mai hall. It is simple beautiful. We had another experience, in the Sao Bento sa Vitoria cloister they play as well. We had a very interesting ballett...More
Teatro Nacional São João is one of the must-see buildings of Porto. It was hidden for some years, but right now we are all able to see this spectacular "jewel" of Porto right in the city center, really close to Rua Santa Catarina.
