This is where to start in Funchal. A wide variety of modestly priced restaurants and cafes in the old centre. Live Fado at the Santa Maria on Wednesday evening.

This street is very close to the cable car (almost behind it), you can walk along the street and admire all the individually painted doors, there is also small restaurants and little shops to pop into. Definately worth a visit.

Heart of the old town. The artworks make the touristy vibe bearable. Several good bars and restaurants.

This narrow street in Old Funchal is one of the highlights of the city. The street is lined with wonderful restaurant, but what really stands out are the painted doors that line the street and the neighbourhood.
