Our first port of call when we arrived, giving us a great insight to the history of Madeira. This was good to do early in our visit as the knowledge enhanced other places that we visited.

This is a very informative museum starting at the entrance when there is information about volcanoes and how the island was formed. Then on the second floor via a lift was the main part with interactive exhibits some not working but still enjoyable and informative.

The museum part of the story centre was located on the second floor. It was a small and warm room with a dull smell. The history of Madeira was entirely provided in text, almost without any interaction. The exhibitiom was lacking actual objects of history....More

We come across this little museum when we were out shopping. It was better than we thought it would be. Very informative with some interactive parts. We spent quite a bit of time here and learned a lot about Madeira and it’s history.

We saw the museum which was interesting and they have a lovely restaurant with a terrace with lovely views on the 3rd floor. The food was good and reasonable too. Nice local speciality of fish with banana. We ended up going there twice.

Great choice as it covers Madeiran history from the stone age to the present. It’s well laid out, informative, fun and interactive. Suitable for all ages as it has interactive quizzes and is presented in three languages.

I didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised by this small but fascinating museum, going as far back as prehistory, the museum documents and illustrates the islands history through the ages: it travels through Roman times, the great age of Portuguese discovery, Napoleon's visit on...More

We found the full story of Madeira fascinating. A variety of angles from creation to modern day life. Took about an hour. Afterwards enjoyed Apple cake in cafe - pricey but really worth it. Made each day by the chef.

Simple exhibits in multiple languages, including English. Despite their simplicity they do a good job of telling the story of Madeira, both the island and the people. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it but if you have several days in the...More
