Weeks before we arrive in Lisbon with my partner we were wondering what activity we should do and we decided to chose The Lisbon Kayak Day Tour.
We did not know what to expect but we were excited. The day of the activity comes and guess what. Was raining. We were disappointed but we called the instructors and they said is still happening and go to the meeting point they have said.
We arrived at 8.00 and our tour guides Nuno and Joao, where there. Both of them very friendly they advise we would go down to the place we would start the kayaking, which is about an hour drive and the weather by then would improve.
Ten of us formed the group. We arrived at the beach around 09.00 and the rain still had not stopped. Everyone was a bit worried and disappointed but both Nuno and Joao advised that the kayak can still happen and the weather will clear and will be nice and sunny. Some of the people at the group decided to go back , which we all understood and Nuno arranged their safe returned to Lisbon. 6 of us decided to stay and was the best decision. Quickly we got ready, they told us how to row and we got into the water. We went to the caves and Joao took us out , through a cave to a spot where we jumped from a clif about 3 mtrs high. Very cool. He had already tried the spot several times and of course was safe to jump. After that we went to a beach on the other side where we had our picnic and lot of fun. The guys had with them all kind of beach fun toys. Small volleyball net and volleyball, water pistols, frisbee, snorkeling equipment we started playing with each other and laugh. They also had with them their water proof speakers and music was playing all the time. At the beach were also other people who they were very friendly and all interacted with us.
Food was also great for the instance. Cherry tomatoes, parma hum, cheese, salad, tuna with mayo that they made, cake, nutella, fruits (pineapple, melon, cherries and strawberries) a lot of bread. You can imagine cause 4 people did not join was even more for us. They also had crisps with them. Joao made an amazing Caipirinha in a 5 litre water bottle and we literally had the most amazing time.
Some tips for the trip.
They give water but also if you want take an extra small bottle.
Have shoes for the water and do not forget sun protection and hat. They give hats but if you want take yours.
A small towel is also helpful but they had 2 or 3 to share.
Kayaking is fun but do not underestimate it , it need co-ordination between the two on the boat and if there are strong current more effort.
Do not take too many things with you. They offer water proof bags but only for few things. Water proof camera (Go Pro) is a must and if you have one take it with you.
The beach you have the picnic is sandy so be prepared cause sand goes everywhere.
Cannot remember something else now but both guys are very helpful, make you feel comfortable and will look after you. Life jackets on the kayak are also provided.
Be prepared with the basics I mentioned above and you will have a great time. I totally recommend to try it and I am sure you will not regret it.
