I never feel I should have to pay to enter a church. We could find no one that knew anything about a mass schedule or if they even do mass in this church. Very disappointed.

While many of the churches in Coimbra has been restored, this one stands out in it's simplicity. The sign outside said church said St. Tiago Church - but it is one in the same. Interesting sign inside says "In this Church we have continuous adoration...More

During a stop in Coimbra for lunch, it was insisted upon us to stop in to the old church. It’s old. It’s incredible that it’s still standing. There’s an interesting outdoor courtyard on the second level. That’s about as excited as I can get about...More

The church appears to be closed but there is a side door that is ajar. Don't be timid, give it a push and then pull aside the curtain into a beautifully preserved Romanesque intimate place of worship. It is down a side street from the...More

The restrained and stony Romanesque facade is massive and the interior is thus seemingly sealed off from the noisy to and fro of the world outside. Step quietly because there will often be people in prayer or meditation here. Every sound seems to be amplified...More

The trail to Santiago de Compostela picks up here for the pilgrims on the Camino Portuguese. The church is small and solemn. It's beautiful in its simplicity. I would definitely come back!
