At the top of the hill is the University of Coimbra, one of the oldest universities in the world. It has a great history and a visit here takes about 3 hours if you want to see everything. The library is not to be missed,...More

This is a tough spot to review— some love it and some are ambivalent. I’m ambivalent. The university architecture is amazing and the library’s walls, halls, stairways and passageways are too. The actual book inventory is limited and you do not see much in your...More

LOVED this library! It reminded me of the library from Beauty and the Beast and/or Harry Potter. If you go with a guide, you won’t wait in line. The line was very long when we went and we were fortunate our tour guide already had...More

We climbed the hill to get to the university, a feat in itself, and went on last entry of the day to library. The wide terrace of white stone university buildings is very Harry Potter. Nice view of the river. And the library does live...More

It is a small library, but one of the prettiest and most ornate library I have been to. The history and the elegance of this place is hard to put into words, one has to experience it by being there. I guess I am part...More

This is one of the magnificent places that only some cities have and deserve a visit. Although the University has other facilities all around the city, the core of them are located in a prominent hill dominating the city, so expect a labyrinth of steep...More

It was a beautiful and interesting space, but compared to the rest of the campus, it seemed a bit overrated.

I visited here on a three part ticket, valid for a day for 12 Euros. I think this good value for money considering the cost of other attractions across Europe. A must for history buffs, book buffs, art buffs and anyone who appreciates the emergence...More

This library is astonishing, you will never understand it's magnificence until you are there! The best place to visit in Coimbra.

No doubt a magnificent collection of priceless books.. however it really is just a snap-shot of a era when only the rich and privileged had access to books (and could read).

You should not have to pre book. Arrive earlier and look for the ticket office at the University entrance. The library is close to ticket office within the walls of the old university. As you certainly know, the... More
