This is a side trip out of Evora - part of it along a dusty road. Don't let the road stop you, however. If big tour buses can do it, so can you. Get there early, however, to get good light for pictures and to...More

It's just one rock, but this rock aligns with the Almendres by aligning with it to point to the sunrise on the summer solstice. Well worth the stop since you are visiting the Almedres already.

Incredible lone, 8 ft. tall prehistoric menhir located just off the road from Evora to the Lisbon airport. Once you've seen this head over to the Cromlech of Almendres made up of 95 menhirs. Its part of a huge area of prehistoric sites which are...More

I went there on a private tour organised through visitevora.net with a great guide called Martin. It is a spectacular menhir...could have sat in its shade all day.

It is worthwhile to stop here when seeing the other megalithic sites in the area. It is a single standing stone. The path is about 1/4 long.

After some initial difficulties in locating the site we eventually found it after travelling down a rough, bumpy track by car, then walking down a very narrow track ( not easy unless you are very sure footed). The tall standing stone is an impressive sight...More

great walk up to the menir - very tiny pathway within the boundaries of a herdade - it is bigger then you think.

Along a heavily rutted path through the cattle fields its a hike to get to this site for anyone not sure of foot. Once your there you are confronted with a single four meter high stone standing in the middle of a field surrounded by...More

I mentioned this megalithic standing stone in my review of the Almendres Cromlech. It is fairly easy to visit this slender and tall standing stone on your way to or from the Recinto Megalítico dos Almendres/Almendres Megalithic Enclosure. You will need to take a stroll...More

Could use some additional interperative information, luckily we had more from our guidebook. Easy drive down a fairly rough gravel road a short distance from Evora. A nice quick diversion.

I'm not sure. It wasn't in our guide book. We just showed up and the guard happened to be there with another group. She reluctantly gave us a tour but made us promise to go into the nearest village to pay the 3 euro fee. She... More
