At the top of the town is this lovely medieval castle which now houses a Pousada. There are a few buildings in the large open area which are worth looking at and the views all around are far reaching.

It's a 10 minute walk up to the castle from the centre of town (although you can drive). The entrance into the castle is actually through the door of the Pestana Hotel. Once you are in the lobby you turn left into the courtyard and...More

Walk up the hill from the main square in Estremoz, where there is a great market on saturdays, past the ancient pilar standing alone in its own square, to the walls of the medieval city. Steep stairs and narrow lanes take you to the castle...More

A visit of the tower, neighboring church and museum should take no more than an hour. A lunch at the castle would be a great way to spend the afternoon.

We made a trip throught medival history. Nice place to visit. They even had good place to lunch and enjoy a glass of wine. I know other similar places with castle but this one we found especially charming.

Worth the climb up the tower to see the rooms and views from the top, and various rooms on the way up. Access via the Pousada. It is about 70 steps to the top, but worth it!

We enjoyed driving through the gate and then to the castle. We walked around the area looking at the interesting architecture and buildings. The views are very nice. We arrived late in the day so it did not seem like much was open.

The visit is free, you can see a couple of rooms very nicely decorated and you can walk up to the top of the tower with a few empty rooms on the way there. The view is awesome as expected. If you are afraid of...More
