Among other things I now know why a lady's hat pin can be considered a very fine weapon for self-defence. But it was chock-a-block with wonderful exhibits covering every aspect of daily life in centuries past. Well done.

Wow, like a tardis!! Had no idea when we entered how much there was inside. Set out over three floors with one room leading to another, to another. ...... etc. So well kept and informative, a delight to visit. Would thoroughly recommend calling there if you are visiting Tournai.

This is a great place for those who love visuals of local historical progressions. Clothing, textiles, tools and professional equipment from a generous cross-section of society are represented here. You can really appreciate how people in the area lived in comparison to how they live now and how the world in general has changed. Great for families with children as well.

What an incredible place! The displays that wander throughout rooms on three floors and two buildings are filled with examples of centuries of life in this small town in Belgium. The name "Folklore" is somewhat misleading. There are rooms set up exactly as they might have been in the 1700s. Plus there are walls of beautiful art, costumes,

The museum contains a bit of everything. One could spend hours. Unfortunately all information is in French only. Very old-fashioned layout of the museum. I was the only visitor which does not mean the chap at the till took the time to help me find the stairs to the toilet. He just turned away. Another man came forward and escorted me to the very hidden WC.

This museum has loads of stuff to look at. However, there is not a word of English available to tell you just what you are looking at.

Well worth a visit is this fascinating, intelligently conceived Musée du Folklore set out in a striking seventeenth-century building, which explores the daily lives and occupations of Tournai’s citizens over the ages.
Among the exhibits are engaging scenes with lifelike figures of Tournaisiens working: at a loom, in a forge, a cobbler’s shop, a farm kitchen, a bar, a pharmacy, and other settings. There are some fine uniforms and, among the many artefacts, there are a number of models including a detailed one of the town under the rule of Louis XIV.
There is so much to see that whatever age you are and whatever aspect of Tournai’s rich historical and cultural past you are interested in, there will be something for you. As I didn't have enough time to look at everything on my visit, I will return when I can.

It is only 2 euros entrance fee and there are 3 floors of amazing exhibits. It was like a tardis the rooms just kept going on from one to another.
You could spend all day there, there was so much to see crammed in every corner. It is not necessary to know any french as a lot of the exhibits are self explanatory. But to understand the amusing cartoons all over the museum you will have to call upon your school days french.
Interesting point if you need the toilets, they are under the puppet show exhibit hidden under red curtains, so you can come out the toilets with a theatrical exit!
