One of the grander old 'places' in Belgium (certainly for a relatively small town) surrounded by cafes, restaurants and some impressive buildings. But if you catch it on the Saturday of the town's traditional feast day (from the 1300s apparently!) the Fete Doudou - Ducasse...More

The Grand Place is a vibrant historical place with the Gothic Town Hall as the centre. There are loads of cafes to sit and watch the square live. A very clean and well ordered place that should be on anyone's agenda when visiting Belgium.

Beautiful views with lots of good places to get a drink and a bit e to eat. The fountain that runs during the warm months is a nice touch. Don't forget to go rub the monkey's head with your left hand!

The central plaza of Mons has nice buildings and places to soak in the sun. You can find the famous monkey on the side of the City Hall. It is smaller than expected so look carefully

I concur with the previous poster, stay in the lighted areas that are well trafficked. Avoid the "back streets"--especially at night.
