Accessed via a small arched doorway Begijnhof is a garden and small square set behind the classic facades of Several rows of Amsterdam’s tall houses. Inside you find the tiny chapel and the English Reform church. Busy with tourists taking photos, but also very calm...More

A beautiful living, working square, which houses, I believe, the oldest house in Amsterdam. We entered the church, said our prayers and lit our candles. Afterwards, we sat in silence admiring the residents beautiful architectural houses around the beautiful garden. An oasis of peace from...More

Peaceful and quiet; a little oasis in the middle of Amsterdam. Beautiful old church and chapel. Stay off the grass!

this ensemble of houses provides a very nice place of quiet in Amsterdam downtown - not so easy to find, but apparently in every guide book so it tends to get overcrowded which ruins the atmosphere. Worth a visit, but not off the beaten path.

A real oasis in the middle of big city... It helps to see (N.B. till 17.00!), what was/is hidden in inner space of old quarters.

Worth the walk to see where the nuns lived and a small chapel remains in its original state. Learn why there are no longer primarily wooden buildings. Not far is also a former hippie-occupied bldg. with history of the 70's culture in Amsterdam. All within...More

This is a lovely spot for a peaceful stroll among 14th century buildings. Some still have Gothic wooden frames. It was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the streets.

Amsterdam is amazing, always something to be discovered just around the next corner. This quiet courtyard features historic houses that were the home of Catholic women in the Protestant age. Much of the area is off limits but worth some quiet time if you are...More

I believe that it is owned by their religious order. and it functions as a retirement facility for older women of that order. I gather they are slowly passing and there are no replacements.

It's too soon to say exact times for Easter but apparently the High Mass is at 12.15 and is held partly in English. Walking time is approximately 10 minutes from your hotel.
