This area in the oldest part of Amsterdam is known for the red neon windows that display barely-dressed prostitutes advertising their services; it's all perfectly acceptable as long as it stays inside this designated area of the city.

It's a no no to take photos! If you don't want to get in trouble , be advised! Also, the blue ligths over the houses mean that they are not womem ( although they look like).

I felt sad for the women but I am sure they are used to men and women gawking at them. I just saw sadness in their eyes. It’s a really kool area and you really get the feel at night.

I believe when you mention Amsterdam, red light district pops up immediately. Very lively & crowded. Roam around, window shop & why not have a little chit chat with the ladies! While there, try the “peep show”. Cheers.

Really dirty place, smells pis 24 hours. Drunk people, i 'm really open minded, but when i visit i feel very sad. It would be a beautiful place, like the rest of the city, but is the worst part

I'd had this idea that the Red Light District would be all glam and glitz but it was just a really seedy and unconfortable place. The women in the windows looked bored and most were on their phones. It was a weird experience, one that...More

If you wanna go red light would recommend you go in the day (although its not as good) as at night you will not be able to move LOL (so many men outside and sitting on the floor) which i guess was to be expected....More

I visited both day and night. Day - very strange, fairly quiet (we visited at 2pm). There were a few women in the windows. Night - (we visited at about 10/11pm) extremely busy! I didn’t feel nervous even though you don’t have any personal space....More

De Wallen is not the same place during the day as it is at night. During the day it's a bit depressing but during the night it comes alive with a completely different atmosphere. It is very easy to walk into the area without noticing...More

Great to walk along the beautiful canals day or night. Late at night was definitely more interesting with tourists crowding the streets. Pros: a must visit destination during the night with plenty of tourists walking along the canals. Cons: It wasn’t that interesting.

An eye-opener into the after dark wonders of this amazing city. Colourful and flamboyant, always pleasantly hectic with much to see! Voyeurism at its best.

There are many hotels in the main city centre, the public transport is excellent, so if you do stay further out, the trams will get you to and from no problem. As for the RLD, no photos, just in respect (and it’s plastered... More
