Who said museums are boring,.....? This is truly a living museum. I wasn't bored for a minute. The museum also has a textile lab, testing the boundaries of old and newer looms. Still developing, and producing challenging projects for customers.

We recently visited the Textile Museum in Tilburg and enjoyed it very much. The museum shows the history and future of textiles with interesting exhibitions and workshops. You can see how textiles are made, designed and used in different contexts such as art, fashion and architecture. The staff was friendly and helpful and the buildings were beautiful and spacious, with modern and old architecture forming a successful symbiosis.
The old punch card looms, the large steam engine and the TextielLab with modern machines were particularly impressive.
The museum's website gives a good overview of the current special exhibitions, which change regularly, so it is worth revisiting the museum after a while.

Een interessant museum in Tilburg. Located in a beautiful old factory building with a modern entrance. There is also plenty to do and see for children. There is also an exhibition of artworks with textiles. The museum café is fine with a wide choice of snacks and drinks. Parking is available nearby at a reasonable rate.

It was ok and nothing more than that. There wasn't much to see and after an hour you're done. It's actually a big student art project because there were also students and teachers there making things. A bit of history was interesting. I'm not really into art so I don't need to go back to this.

Kinda put off writing this review as I didn't really know what to think of this museum. I am still in two minds, actually.
On one hand it is really large and it has a great collection of objects, separated in several smaller exhibitions. Some topics are quite nice; one was about lace and couture dresses, one was on the production of woven blankets and they have a steam engine too. Others didn't impress me that much. The one on damask felt a bit empty and unfinished. I am not entirely sure what they wanted to get across. The same went for the exhibition 'rode draden. The museum also has a lab, a library and some spaces, of which I didn't really see the purpose. The whole atmosphere just felt a bit off to me; dark and unfinished. The library felt like we weren't really supposed to be there. Also, the route through the museum wasn't clear to me at all.
Facilities are alright; toilets etc are clean, there is a little restaurant and a gift shop.
Fees are as follows:
- 12,5 euros adults
- 4 euros, kids aged 13-18
- free, kids up to 12 and card holders.

It is fascinating to see a complete different type of museum in such a good way to be shown. It is not only beaituful but also takes you through the history of the fashion which is incredible. The big machines and you can also experience them, by "cycling"on one for example making a big piece of textile!

This wonderful museum is situated in an old textile factory. You can see how beautiful tablecloths and other household items were weaved. Everything has been put together in a modern setting. The history of weaving is very well explained and is complemented with Dutch design in textile by top designers.

My hobby is textiles in all it's forms and my hope was that this would be a good place to feed my passion. Most of the museum was of interest but not a lot charged my imagination. Maybe my timing was off by arriving before the summer exhibits were in place. Possibly later in the year the exibits would have triggered my 'WOW' reaction. I hope so, we do need places to show us how the fabric of our lives is created.

Hallo.
