«People who know animals will protect them.» Up above the city of Zurich, spanning a surface of approximately 27 hectares, is Switzerland’s largest and most frequently visited cultural and educational institution: Zoo Zurich. The popular nationwide...more
We visited Zoo Zurich on a whim and it was really easy to purchase a ticket online to scan for entry when we arrived later on. From the map, it looks like the place is easily covered but due to the terrain, some areas are...More
Zoo Zurich was a fun experience - yet there are a few points that could be better.
All in all it’s a great zoo, but it wasn’t very clean on the day we were there and most of the trash cans were full and swarming...More
We visited as a family with young adults. We enjoyed getting very close to several animals. We spent 4 hours and still didn’t see it all. We liked the “human geography” component with the furnished huts nestled in among the animals that we could peek...More

Zoo is located 20 min from central station. It's located on the hill, so you can expect to walk a lot up to the hill and down, what is not easy with small kids. There're a lot of nice animals, like elephants, lions, tigers and...More

I visited the Zoos of London, Berlin, Vienna, New York. But the Zoo of Zurich certainly doesn't have to fear comparison. Most Animals have modern zoo enclosures, especially the elephants. The Masoala Hall, a rain forest environment, is very beautiful (and hot [35 °C]).
Zoo is great especially because animals are placed in big areas, and you don't have impression that they are in captivity. It is amusing to searc them in their environment, cause sometimes they are hidden. You can see lots of animals closely (Koalas, Gorilas, Emus...) At...More

Hi, I guess it depends on how much you like to walk in the rain from one animal attraction to the next. There are some attractions which take place indoors like the Masoala Halle where you can easily spend 1-2 hours. There is the aquarium, and the elephant house, etc. Like others have written, you probably get more for your money if you go on a non-rainy day. On rainy days, there are not as many people and you will get around much faster and not have to wait. I would probably not go on 'stormy rain' days.
