a museum for all ages and interests
Aug 2020
Palais de Rumine is the type of museum you do not find that often anymore. First of all , all the permanent exhibits are free; admission is charged only for the temporary exhibitions. Of the latter, the museum hosts one or two at a time; the recent temporary exhibit "the origins of the the middle ages" (aux sources du moyen age) was excellent. The geology museum and paleontology museum on the top floor are old-fashioned is a lovely way, but at the same time very informative - great for a visit with the kids. The cantonal archeology and history museum one floor below is also more than worth a visit......

A collection of small museums
Oct 2019
This is a place of collection of multiple museums. Each one occupies a floor and brief. This is not that friendly to tourists because most exhibits do not have english description. For most tourists, it is simply a quick walk in front of the exhibits.

Thank you for your comment. You’re right about the lack of english, but the museums have booklets or tour app in english. It’s a pity that the attendants did not inform you. For the next time:)

Too small museums
Jan 2019 • Solo
Palais Rumine is a palace with some museums and it is located in the old town of Lausanne, a city in Switzerland. Some of the museums are Museum of Zoology, Museum of Archeology or Museum of Beaux-Arts. All of them are very small and they has only few objexts or artworks. It was a bit disappointing, because I thank that was a very good idea visiting some museums in the same building, but they are not very interesting.

Quirky, but lots of fun
Sep 2018 • Business
I was not quite sure what to expect when I walked into the Rumine, but given that it was free, I thought I would give it a go. Much to my surprise it is full of delights including the only complete dinosaur skeleton in Switzerland, reproductions of all of the great diamonds (such as the Koh-i-Noor) and a working cloud chamber. There are lots of things for kids to do. Great place to spend a hour or two and there is a lively market just outside on a Saturday.

Amazing collection of Museums inside the Palais de Rumine
Jun 2018 • Business
Beautiful set of museums inside the Palais de Rumine. You can easily spend 3 hours inside, going through the amazing and unique collections which are on 3 floors. There are people working on each floor who can assist you with questions regarding the collections. Signage about each item on display is detailed enough to understand what you are viewing. Beautifully laid out. There are maps available at each level, to help you as you walk and view the displays.

An imposing building in an area full of attractions. The cathedral is next door which makes visiting very easy.

Wasn't Sure What to Expect - Loved It!
Nov 2017 • Solo
I had no idea this place was here and thought it was just an impressive building in the square. As I saw people coming and going I thought I would look in and I struck gold. On the day I visited, there was the Ai Weiwei exhibition which was just stunning. On top of this, there was geological, historical and natural history exhibits which all had their own merits. Admittedly, the taxidermy was at first impressive, and then a bit unsettling once I realised how much there was!

Nice buildings on square
May 2017 • Couples
Nice buildings on the square always seems to be a lot of activity, we were warned about pickpocketing so keep, your wits about you and your valuables safe. Given the impression it was not onthe good side of town
