A good aquarium-vivarium to visit
Aug 2020 • Solo
I've been there alone and it was a good place to see. I didn't expect anything special, but I was still really surprised (in a good way). I've booked an happy hour ticket on the website (you can have a ticket for 10 CHF instead of 29.-), and even if it's only from 5 PM and it closes at 6 PM, it was enough to see everything.
I've really liked the fact you can see many informations about local fishes, fishes around the world, snakes, other animals...and you can also put it in different languages. I didn't like too much to see some spiders (big ones !) but only because I didn't expect that. Otherwise, I recommend this place, it really worth it !
Check on the website to book your tickets, you can have 30% off the price, or as said before, happy hour tickets. Enjoy !

Worthwhile visit
Aug 2020
I enjoyed the use of lights and animation which creates the atmosphere for a visit, and highlights the animals on view. There is a lot of educational material here - this is not just a visit to see fish. Lights, reflections, animations, virtual people, and audio help visitors learn about water, the Rhone River, the great rivers of the world, the origin of life, the evolution of animals. Probably more than a vacationing family wants to take on, but great for a class trip. You can go at your own pace - linger over all the info, or glide through looking at the animals and settings.

The Piranha restaurant is aimed at the lowest acceptable level - probably a not too discriminating 7 year old. Adequate, but not memorable.

Beautiful exhibit, though online payment system with bugs & terrible restaurant Le Piranha...
Aug 2020
The beautiful exhibit would warrant an overall Very Good or Excellent rating but unfortunately, the restaurant Le Piranha (the other one being closed) was such a disappointment yesterday afternoon...

We arrived at the restaurant after our visit in the middle of the afternoon, and already all the menus had been removed and there was no other warm food on offer apart from a hamburger (which in all fairness was quite ok and the fries tasty), in spite of a hefty regular entry fee of nearly 30 francs. Also, there were three staff members in the kitchen for a single dish. It looked as though one was in charge of frying the hamburger, the second one of handling the buns and adding salad, tomato, cucumbers and ketchup, while the third one handed out the fries.

The cashier then graciously added a non-existent dessert, which I only noticed once we were installed outside on the terrace. Speaking of which, it was still a complete mess yesterday afternoon after a concert the night before. Equipment was scattered all around the seated area, beverages were stocked on the floor and worst of all, shards of broken glass littered the entire area... My mother who has Alzheimer's attempted to pick these up several times, despite our insistent shouts not to touch anything.

Near our table sat the hungover organisers of the event – unkempt, with partially open beach shirts – and despite the pandemic affectionately hugging, handshaking, knuckle-bumping and "checking" each of their buddies as one after the other emerged from out of bed. (Though perhaps they all share the same accommodation...) As they slowly began to wake up around an after-breakfast apéro, a few technicians were little by little and halfheartedly beginning to unmount speakers.

The restaurant itself – despite what the website makes you believe – is dull, sterile and was designed without much imagination. Or in typical Swiss fashion: furztrocken, stinklangweilig & todernst. I felt ashamed to be Swiss and for a brief moment, I pictured the scruffy bunch of party beach bums waking up in extremis if placed next to one of Aquatis's desert crocodiles, inland taipans, Gabon vipers or the green mamba...

Oh and I almost forgot to mention that payment for the special 2-for-1 online offer was refused with 4 different credit cards and only accepted with my dad's Postcard, the reception lady's computer was malfunctioning and she wasn't particularly helpful either.

PS @TRIPADVISOR: Guess what, it is entirely possible to happily visit places as a family WITHOUT ANY CHILDREN, young or teenaged – just with your parents for example. It's called CHILDFREE (not childless). Try it, it really is great!

definitely worth visiting, a 360 experience

Amazing setting using the entire floor-to-ceiling space and interactive technology. Very immersive, the designers and specialists put the animals at the core. It’s a good balance of entertainment and education on a wide range of fish and many other unique species. Interactive trilingual info panels are easy to use and all working properly. It would deserve another visit to get the best of the modern video testimonials. All exhibits are very accessible to small children. We live nearby, really glad we finally visited. I’ll promote Aquatis to our friends as it proved to be above our expectations. Luckily we could tap into the 1-for-2 offer in course this Summer, it motivated us greatly. Nicer with less people inside as always, choose your time slot purposefully. Highly recommended.

Great aquarium/vivarium
Jul 2020 • Family
Visited at the weekend with the 2-4-1 offer 48chf for a family of 4. Excellent value, and we went round twice! Perhaps because of covid, but it was very calm and felt extra special. The displays and information are clear and interesting (French, German and English touchscreens. Lots of hand sanitiser throughout, and everyone adhering to mask rules)
Local fish, exotic marine life, monkeys(!), crocodiles, snakes, Komodo dragon and more.
Our kids age 5 and 6 were enthralled, it was perfect for them.
A special thanks to William who works there, for his kind and friendly hospitality. I regret not asking him more about the animals - for example where are the newly hatched baby crocodiles at the moment, but I’m sure we will be back sometime again!

Exceeded all expectations
Jul 2020 • Family
This is not a typical aquarium. So many reviews are from people saying the fish were dull etc.

It’s a freshwater aquarium and vivarium and it is stunning. I went with my 5 year old and it was the perfect size for her. We went around the full exhibit three times as she loved it so much, broken up with an excellent meal in the restaurant (confit duck leg).

The highlights for me were:
- the little meerkat creatures which were very playful and in an amazing exhibit with two enormous crocodiles
- a phenomenal Komodo dragon with a cool enclosure that kids can sit into (behind glass)
- last but not least, an Amazon rainforest experience that was beautiful and had two little monkeys roaming free.

Every single exhibit was beautifully designed, spotlessly clean and very well maintained and the animals looked to be in very good condition.

It was very educational but my daughter was a bit too young and excited to take all of that side of things in.

There was also a tasteful gift shop and all the staff were accommodating and informative.

A wonderful day out.

Our family containing 8 and 10 year olds really enjoyed this place. There's lots of animals to see from snakes, lizards 🦎 to fish and rays. Lots of info in English, French and German. Plus electronic displays and models.

Dear MF238 thank you for your visit and your excellent feedback. In all likelihood, you have grasped the importance of our outreach role and the quality of our site. At AQUATIS you can make a trip around the Earth by following fresh-water with four incursions in salt-water ecosystems.

Excellent Collection!
Feb 2020 • Solo
I absolutely loved walking around here! It’s not a huge exhibit, but it was very enjoyable and they had an impressive collection. So many fish, exotic snakes, Poison Dart Frogs, and even a Komodo Dragon! Some of the fish in the fresh water aquarium had to be about 200 lbs. If you like to nerd out on nature, I definitely recommend a visit! It’s right off the metro stop as well. For those complaining about price; it’s Switzerland.....EVERYTHING IS EXPENSIVE!! Lol If you get the City Pass though, you get a discount here, and at many other attractions in Lausanne.

Unfortunately too expensive and not comfortable
Feb 2020
I like aquariums but I find this one relatively uncomfortable:
- the walkway is too narrow for such a public place and some windows are simply too small. the idea of having animation reflecting on the floar is nice, but it requries that you are alone inside!
- The place is too dark, so with small kids it become stessful

The entry price is too expensive. This is a place that you need to come multiple times as there is a lot of material, but with 32 per head it is unreasonable.

Dear Zatash, thank you for your visit to AQUATIS. Since customer satisfaction is at the heart of our concerns, we are sorry to read your dissatisfaction The duration of the visit is not limited, each visitor has the opportunity to adapt his or her time of visit. The recommended duration of the visit is from 1h30 to 2h00. This allows you to discover the many species present but also to listen to the many testimonies of researchers or scientists on certain aspects related to the problem of fresh water. It is also possible to leave the Aqiuarium-Vivarium for a break and then return, in the same day. AQUATIS is generally very popular with children because aquariums are accessible and visible from an early age. Some darker areas are presented in alteration with brighter areas and thus allow to discover the scenography on the ground. However, in case of high attendance you can discover these same elements at the ceiling. Rates are CHF 29. - per adult, however, we inform you that on Mondays excluding school holidays in Vaud and public holidays, admission is CHF 19. –

Surprised and Impressed
Jan 2020
We finally made it to Lausanne's aquarium and it was really fine. Not limited to fresh-water fish as I had previously believed, Aquatis gave an interesting overview of the Lac Leman area, how it formed and the aquatic life of the region. Then the tour takes you to other geographic environments as contrasted with ours.

What can I say - we really enjoyed our visit and are happy to have Aquatis here for us.

Easy to access by metro or car (with parking right below).
