CERN, in Geneva, is the world’s largest particle physics research centre. CERN has recently brought into service the world’s most powerful accelerator, the LHC (Large Hadron Collider), which will provide new insights into the Universe and how it evolved. The entire Universe is made up of particles. But where do they come from? What laws govern their behaviour? The purpose of the "Universe of particles" exhibition is for visitors to confront the great questions of contemporary physics : a journey to the Big Bang.

Visit to CERN and the ATLAS experiment is very interesting. Very impressing control center for the accelerator and the sensors for the detection of the collisions

We took a guided tour of CERN. Fascinating place to walk around, although slightly mind boggling at times - you need an interest in the field to truly appreciate this place.

Enjoyed the short film and various activities in the dome. Didn't realise the LHC busy with four distinct experiments. The new exhibition still work inprogress and will be a good extension. Unexpected bonus of a courtyard 'sculpture park' of defunct kit. Tours need to be...More

The tour is free but can only be booked online a few weeks in advance so try as soon as your window opens up. It is very interesting but they do the typical thing of telling you something and then telling you again to reinforce...More

The tour was fun and interesting but I have an interest in science - it might not be super interesting for those who aren't science nerds.

It is very difficult to get a tour reservation for less than 12 people, so go to the website and read-up on the details. I even went so far as to practice getting reservations the night before to assure I wouldn't miss the window to...More

Highly recommended if one's interested in science. There are 2 permanent exhibitions about the LHC and particle physics, and you can book a 2 hours guided tour. Unfortunately while the LHC is in operation, underground facilities cannot be visited, but it's still worth it.

The visit consist mainly of little films describing the history of the research in CERN. They show the SC (Synchrocyclotron) who is not anymore used, and we pass by the control room of the ATLAS. No proper visit of the LHC, for safety reasons. Being...More

I did the short visit, but it's still worth it. You have to register for the real tour. Easy to get to with bus #18
