An eccentric collection of moving sculptures sourced from all kinds of scrap including a Formula 1 racing contraption. Allow at least an hour or so for this 'mad' experience and choose to switch ON these works at your whim! Let the noise and theatre commence!...More

Not as easy to get to as other museums as the ferry does not sail to here in the winter. A large building with lots of wasted space and not much to see. The exhibits look abit dated now and are items of junk/farmyard equipment...More

The Jean Tinguely museum is situated at the waterfront of the river Rhein. It’s nice to stroll along the river to the museum. It has an extensive collection of all kind of ingenious machines of Jean Tinquely, which surprise you and leaves you wondered. Some...More

What an interesting place! Worth an afternoons browsing with a good cafe and lovely shop too. Best of all its half price with a Basel card and easy to get to with a tram across the river. He was clearly mad as a box of...More

Having no idea of who Jean Tingly was, we took the advice of the guide books and went to the museum dedicated to his works. It was a mesmerizing experience. What creativity to take pieces of scrap and junk and make it into moving art.

Admission to this museum (and others) are included with a Basel Card which we received for staying in a Basel B&B. To say visiting the Tinguely Museum is a unique experience is an understatement. Tinguely apparently created art from stuff he found in junkyards and...More

Tinguely's kinetic art is most enjoyable. I noticed smiles on the faces of everyone, from small children to elderly adults, The pieces are whimsical but Tinguely had some still timely things to say about waste and commercialism in our society.

The guide book highlighted this museum and from the write up it looked interesting. It is not a cheap entrance fee. It could have been an interesting place to visit but as his concept is mechanical movement we didn't see much of the movement. Each...More

The wonder of this fun place is that not only do you get to see the art but you can play with it as well!

A radio exhibition was on when we visited but it was hard to follow in English. Motion artwork was fascinating, although a bit off the wall. Very good visit to learn about tinguely and his work.
