After reading the reviews of Mauro's leather goods on here I made a special trip to Assisi to find him, only to find his shop is no longer there. Luckily someone in a nearby shop was able to tell me he has moved and now has a shop in the Grand Hotel Assisi. It is on the outskirts of town almost in a residential area. He is there in his shop which is also where his workshop now is, but he is only open 6.30-10.00 am and 5.30pm until about 8 or 9pm I think. Well worth a visit - I bought two beautiful bags - excellent quality leather and not expensive. A mystery as to why he is now based there as he no longer has the passing trade and he is no longer easy to find but well worth it! …

I stopped in here with my choir on a day trip to Assisi and this was one of the highlights to an already incredible area. Our director knows Mauro and he was kind and friendly - offering us discounts and chatting with us for awhile. I visited this shop in August and bought a gorgeous bag. I've worn it almost daily for 5 mos and it still looks amazing. I get a lot of compliments on it. Had I known how special a place it was I would've walked away with a couple of more things. …

Unfortunately the wallet i bought was found by my puppy. I would love to get a replacement. I believe Mauro does not have a website for shopping so if anyone is planning a trip to Assisi soon let me know so you can pick up a new one for me. thanks.…

I could kick myself that I did not purchase a purse from Il Tapiro. Sadly, Mauro does not have a website from which I could place an order now that I am back home. He was in his shop stitching a backpack when I visited his shop. Very personable young man with a passion and artful skill for leather purses, backpacks, briefcases, etc. I woefully regret not taking the time to purchase a beautiful leather purse.…
