It was interesting to see this circular complex of apartments, whose foundation was an ancient amphitheater. Later while walking the side streets west of Santa Croce church in Florence I noticed the same circular formation, an old amphitheater.

Great place to relax chill & people watch, many local cafe’s & restaurants in a lovely tranquil location I could imagine it being amazing to be seated here when opera is being performed with the shape of the piazza the acoustics I have been told...More

The old amphiteather is gone but the shape remained, hence the brown-yellow houses create a special oval square. Nice place for an afternoon drink with several cafes.

This oval piazza provides a great area of protection from wind and offers an opportunity to mingle with locals and tourists alike. However, the restaurants around this Piazza seem to make up the bottom of the barrel of Lucca’s restaurants. There is one there we...More

This is an interesting spot but can get crowded with tour groups. I would suggest if you want to eat that you go to one of the streets outside the amphitheatre

Big place with lots happening. Hot in the sun. Lots of families enjoying Mother’s Day at the various restaurants. We enjoyed gelato.

This is a nice piazza, good location. good acoustics for the performers, nice shops, good restaurants to sit under the umbrella. There was a good outdoor leather shop one block away.

The anfiteatro is a charming place for lunch or an early evening drink. For dinner I would probably choose to visit one of the restaurants tucked away elsewhere. Le Sorelle is a lovely homeware shop worth a visit.

An intriguing survival - we were surprised at the extent of the masonry (archways &c.) that's still above ground. We expected just the oval plan, but look hard and there's a good bit more to see especially from the outside. The flower market was wonderful...More
