I think this could be nicer in warm weather as you could sit and enjoy the lovely views of the beautiful basilica. We just walked through it as it was cold.

I walked through on my own without a guide and enjoyed it very much. The architecture, paintings and overall design are gorgeous. Recommend staying at the Santa Maria Novella Hotel just across the piazza. .
