We had a great time seeing "Love Duets" and were going to see "The Barber of Seville" AND Love Duets (again) on our planned trip to Florence this May. Unfortunately the Corona virus will cause us to push our trip back to 2021 but a couple of visits to St Marks will definitely be on the program! By the way, a good day is to visit Pitti Palace, dine at 4 Leoni and polish it off with a performance at St Marks! For Love Duets, 2 excellent opera singers are accompanied by piano and there is an explanation in english before each selection. There is a similar performance across town but there is no interaction with the crowd. At St Marks the performers don't just "sing," they are expressive and act out the parts. You don't have to love opera to enjoy the performance...and--be careful--you'll like opera a lot after this! St Marks is a small venue seating less than 50 people, so you are up close and personal. This is an budget way of experiencing an opera in Florence, but it is an absolute superb experience. The performance is in a small church to small intimate audience. There is no need upgrade your tickets, but if you do you will be literally within touching distance of the performers. There is a narration in English at the start and in between acts which informs the novice opera goer. Prosecco served at the break. This was our first opera experience, and we have not stopped talking about it. A must experience when in Florence.…

Despite a small house possibly due to the worry over the coronavirus, the company displayed great talent and professionalism. Their singing was superb and their acting very good. The set was functional and the costumes beautiful. The sole, and minor negative, was the accompanist occasionally drowned out Violetta.…

What a find! Great little venue with a top notch cast. Would be a great into opera for someone who wanted the experience. While the opera is in Italian they provide a superb narration before acts, so one isn't lost. No brainer, book a ticket!

Review of: A Night At The Opera Saint Marks Florence
From start to finish the setting, music and singing was superb. Set in a small church, the acoustics were fabulous with the singers being touching distance away. An audience of approximately 30 people made the experience special and the fact that all proceeds go to charity was an added bonus. This was a highlight of our trip to Florence and I would highly recommend it.…
