In need of restoration, lots of paths closed
Oct 2021
This nature reserve didn't have any plants or animals I hadn't seen on the mainland. Lots of little paths were closed, bits of it were falling down. The public gardens in Taormina were better and they're free. Having said that, it was charming in an abandoned Bond film set or theme park way. Unique

Isola Bella Hella

My wife enjoyed touring the house on the island and a dip in the small bay. I found the whole experience existentially alienating. This is a small rock beach overcrowded with people shuffling around trying to find a square metre or two to lower their behinds onto the stony ground inches from the next pair of buttocks. Meanwhile tourist boats circle like sharks looking to bite a chunk out of your wallet in exchange for a puffy ride around the bay and the bars on the beach are like the economy section of a cut price airplane stuck on the runway - people packed like sardines shouting in vain for service and filling the place with the scent of desperation. They’ve come because the place seems a romantic idyll only to discover that Satre was right: l’enfer c’est les sutures. My advice : read about the place 100 years ago. It is a place much better imagined in the mind than in reality. And for god sake don’t go if there’s a cruiser in the local harbour.

A day at the beach
Sep 2021 • Couples
Parked ourselves at the Mendolia Beach Club on the public part of beach. Abundance of sunloungers and umbrellas. Good day rate at time of review €10 per person. Toilets manned and regularly cleaned to good standard. Lifeguards in attendance. Stoney beach so beach shoes or sturdy flip flops recommended. Sea was lukewarm and excellent for cooling down, but quite rocky underfoot in the shallows.

Hidden paradise
Sep 2021 • Couples
Amazing beach with wonderful view. Highly recommended to visit. You can access via stairs or with Funivia from the city of Taormina. Be prepared there is only sporadic bus ride from/to Taormina train station if you don't access via Taormina.

Wonderful
Aug 2021
A paradise among the beauty of Sicilian sea. I totally advice the visit inside the Isola Bella Villa (yes it was a victorian villa with a fascinating story). They accept Apple Pay, and it is totally worth the price. You will see the change of temperature thanks to the luxuriant vegetation, and enjoy the view form the open balcony, in armony with the Island natural shape. It is like a little world of peace inside the chaos of one of the most visited beaches of Sicily (and I can get why). Unfortunately, there had been some urbanization abuses: these buildings right on the seaside are like knives to the peaceful harmony of nature. I hope and pray for the authorities to solve this problem and let the beauty if Sicily breath free like during the Greek Age

Fantastic dinner!
May 2021 • Couples
This is a wonderful place! Went for dinner. Atmosphere is casual, yet warm and elegant. Fro the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a friendly welcome and were seated inside. They also have great outdoor dining spaces, too. Matt was our server-he was excellent from start to finish. Our food was delicious and beautifully presented. We had the burrata antipasto to dart and three wonderful pasta dishes to follow. Aneritriciana, Carbonara, and lobster ravioli. Each was very well done. Dessert was Torta di Nonna gelato. Highly recommend this place!!

The island with pep!

The entire island of Sicily is a fantastic experience, but this little island is one of the top views anyone could ask for. Don't miss it!

My favorite place in the world
Jun 2020
I came here for the first time in 1993 and have returned a few times over the years--most recently in 2018 when I brought my 11 year old daughter who loved it. It was crowded and tricky to reach (my mother who has mobility issues wasn't able to join us), but the pebbly beach is so pretty. Water shoes definitely recommended--I believe vendors sell them on or near the beach for about 10 euros. I also bought my daughter a snorkel and mask for about 10 euros as well. She had a blast looking at the fish and collecting sea glass.
Sitting there, I was in my favorite place in the world with my favorite person in the world. It was great.

Lovely beach
Sep 2020
The hike down to the beach is reasonably challenging so you need to be able bodied, however you could always get the funicular from the town which is easy. (we did this to get back to save the uphill climb.) The beach is beautiful although it is all shingle and pebbles so some footwear is highly recommended. We hired 2 sunbeds with parasol for 20 euros which is convenient, if not cheap. If you want to lie on beach then you need to bring padding due to the pebbly nature.
