When we came here (twice at different times) the gate was shut... but you still get a great view from above. This area is great to stroll around at sunset and get an aperatif at a nearby bar looking out onto the sea.

If you pay attention, you can see that papyro still grows there. Very interesting. At night, there is a light show there (with tickets).

The Fountain is not that amazing to justify going there specially for it, however since you'll be strolling all around Ortigia, I believe you'll pass by there. But stopping at the adjoining Largo Aretusa is a must, considering that the sunsets from there are absolutely Glorious. I'd add that on the other side of Largo Aretusa you have ...Aretusa Gardens (Giardino Aretusa) with a fantastic tree that you should see as well. So all this area is worth your time, and you should try not to miss it. I have attached several pictures of the sunsets there, trying to give you a glimpse of the place and may be convince you to be there.

The fountain is no big deal however it has a beatiful story behind it which you should read about. It has a great location right next to the sea with beautiful views of the sea, Siracusa and lots of ice cream shops, cafes, and restaurants right next door to spend a nice afternoon or evening !
