So many paintings and frescos are here. Antonello de Messina’s Annunciata is the most important. But you can stare a long time at “Trionfo della Morte” and reflect on it. I was simply captivated by this collection, not to mention all those Baroque paintings and...More

There is really one main reason to go here (besides the others I will list): the Virgin Annunciate by Antonello da Messina. One of a handful of his extant works, it's transfixing. The museum also has the incredible Triumph of Death, the enigmatic Bust of...More

The palazzo was constructed in 1490 and, in the 1950's was converted into an art museum for medieval art, which has stretched into the renaissance. Inevitably there is a focus on Sicilian artists with many splendid early works rescued from churches and there a few...More

The collection of museum that used to be the residence of Francesco Abatellis, port master of the Kingdom of Sicily, is rather rich. It contains 12th century wooden works, 14th-17th century works by foreign and italian artists and the remarkable fresco of the Triumph of...More

Probably the best known piece is Antonello's Virgin Annunciate, the delicate portrait of a very beautiful girl, but also the Triumph of Death, an awesome fresco taking up an entire wall. It is a large collection of mostly religious works. For me the most impressive...More

In this building they are having medieval art, not so impressive if you are used to see it before. The ticket is expensive, 8 euro each

If you like art then this museum is a delight. Well displayed and all clearly labelled. Staff friendly and helpful. No guide books or shop. No cafe. Really enjoyed it and spent a couple of hours there.

There's a vast collection of medieval to renaissance paintings here, plus a lot of later items that, speaking personally, I can live without. The stand-out is the Virgin Annunciate by Antonello da Messina, presented pretty much in its own room. But there's a lot of...More

I went because the previous day I'd bought a combined ticket from the Museo Palazzo Mirto...I was entirely unprepared for this former merchants' palace. I'd been asked by 5 people to see my ticket on entry to this austere place and feeling frustrated I looked...More

Magnificent building containing more religious artworks than I have ever seen under one roof. It did get a bit overwhelming. I loved that we could visit their 'restoration' room to see how they lovingly restired artworks that had severely deteriorated. It was nicely laid out,...More
