This was not high on my list of sights in Palermo but as we were walking past Piazza Bellini I thought we may as well pop on. So glad we did the mix of Norman mosaics and later baroque decoration makes it a riot of...More

This was one of the most beautiful churches in Palermo. We would definitely recommend that others visit!

A friend recommended visiting this church and it is absolutely amazing. If you don't have many days in Palermo, make sure you visit this church.

Founded in 1143, the church was decorated with beautiful golden mosaics around the same time as Montreale Cathedral. Later extended in baroque style, it is now an Orthodox church, and well worth a visit.

We stopped in to view a wedding in progress. Was only able to take a few pictures out of respect for the wedding party. Another awesome church.

This church has a beautiful interior and it is so relaxing just to sit inside and look at the mosaics. There are two more churches around, so you can visit them too.

Palermo and surrounds has 4 astonishing sites where Byzantine mosaics can be seen. They are all stunning. Cefalu, Monreale, Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio, and the Palatine chapel. Visit them in that order if you do the Palatine Chapel first it will eclipse the other 3.

Three churches in the same square seem too many. In fact, they are so utterly different from one another, they form a perfect trio. Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio has the most attractive belltower of the three, an elegant, lofty Norman structure made of blond sandstone.
