Verona, the City Without Taxis - A Disheartening Experience
1.0 of 5 bubblesApr 2023
During my recent visit to Verona, I encountered a truly disappointing situation. To my surprise, this picturesque city lacks taxis and prohibits the operation of services like Uber. It became abundantly clear that getting around would be a challenge, as there were no viable options for requesting a taxi. The only hope was to rely on the kindness of strangers with Italian phone numbers, hoping they would come to our rescue. Regrettably, the local drivers showed no inclination to assist tourists in need. They made no effort to help us access a taxi, even with the assistance of a dedicated app that supposedly allowed for bookings. Sadly, this app was rendered useless without an Italian phone number. The only suggestion we received was to call customer service, but to our dismay, their representatives primarily spoke Italian and struggled to comprehend English. Consequently, our requests for a taxi went largely unanswered, leaving us stranded until we chanced upon an Italian individual who was willing to lend us their phone and book a taxi on our behalf. This experience left a bitter taste in our mouths. Verona, as a city reliant on tourism, should strive to provide convenient transportation options for visitors. It is disheartening that such a popular destination fails to cater to the needs of international tourists, leaving them at the mercy of language barriers and local indifference. As a result, I cannot recommend Verona as a tourist destination until they address this glaring issue and improve their transportation services. Visitors deserve a more welcoming and accessible experience that allows them to explore the city without unnecessary hurdles.

The Fiera itself is huge!!! Kudos to the people who run it for transforming it into different uses for different fieras. Vinitaly was amazing, with more buildings than one could possibly visit, and more wineries than one could count!

The fair Progetto Fuoco was highly professional, the traffic good signposted and organized. The halls have excellent climatization so many burning fireplaces were no problem.
There are several options to dine on fair grounds. Learn from my mistake: Don’t go to small self-service restaurant on Verona fair (Fiera di Verona) on 1st floor.
45 minutes prior to closure there was no abundant choice, no clearly written and seen prices, no bread in the basket, but they charged coperto&bread anyway.
I was tired and wanted to seat down. Next time I’ll rather sit on the stairs or walk to alternative place.
The pasta was dull, not even warm and overcooked for Italian standard. I am used to get such food in cheap restaurants around the world but not in Italy. Portion was miniature, plastic plate and fork like the street food for 6,5 EUR + coperto. The small beer (2,5dl) was the right temperature and 4.5 EUR.
I’ll definitely visit this and other fairs in Verona again but won't go to this self-service unless I am on a diet.

The Fiera is well organized, with ample parking and enough places to eat. The inside temperature was fine, and there were places to sit and rest. All in all, well done. Whether you like the actual show is another issue, but the Fiera provides a very good setting.

Discovery of the most special tasting ham that is soaked in Ripasso and/ or Amarone. We visited the shop 12 km from Verona they had a lot of choice, also traditional charcuteries. We could taste all different specialties frrely. We spend 90€ on ham 😜 at "Vinappeso" ( vicinity of Negrar)
