Worth the stop by

A reasonable entry fee takes you inside one of the grander churches of Venice Big bold pieces of art and statues certainly justify the desire to visit.

Beautiful church, a bit off the beaten path, away from the main tourist areas. This church has many lovely sculptures and frescoes. Definitely worth a visit!

This cathedral offers a range of Italian great painters works on display along with other large tombs around the church. They have a beautiful carved nave for the choir that is quite unique and several lovely chapels. The paper guide is pretty accurate so not necessary for the audio guide unless you want to pay 2euros for it.

After our visit to the Scoula, we went around the corner to find Basilica de Frari. Compared to St. Mark’s, this Franciscan church is low key. However, it has several masterpieces, sculptures and tombs which should not be missed. The intricate sculptured row of wooden choir chairs is impressive. This must have been from the 1300’s.

Venice is well known for it's beauty and millions of people are keen to accept to wait for hours to visit San Marco. I Frari will probably not shock you as mach as San Marco but take your time and start the tour. You'll then understand why missing it would have been a real pity.

You just have to actually see it. It's beautiful, and words aren't adequate. A lot more open than many churches. The size if the interior is surprising.

It costs only €3 to enter this cathedral which has one of the best art ( by Titian, Bellini, et al) in Venice. Definitely not to be missed. A hidden gem.

Great work of Antonio Canova, Titian and Bellini. The Basilica has the character. Beautiful sculptures.

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
