This year we stayed in the Cannaregio instead of near San Marco. It was wonderful. Quiet walks along the canals with the locals. Eating with the locals. And San Marco is only about a 15 min walk

A great area to stay in that is away from the big crowds. Highly recommend Hotel Ai Mori d'Oriente and their wonderful helpful staff.

I stayed in a small private hotel in a cul-de-sac just off A Fondamento della Misricordia. There are many small bridges that link this street with the 'Highway' - a flat [only 1 bridge!], basically straight [unusual for Venice] series of streets that link Santa...More

Our family enjoyed this restaurant very much. The food was good and it was nice to dine right next to the canal. They had heaters because it was chilly.

Firstly, everywhere in Venice is in walking distance or a short boat ride so it matters little where you stay. That being said, my preference is Cannaregio. I like to see how the people live and go about their daily lives. I like somewhere quiet...More

I visited Venice with some friends and we booked an Airbnb casa Bella Vista which was in Cannaregio area. It was a perfect place with beautiful views and must go restaurants. Do stay here or visit the restaurant.

Cannaregio is more a real community than the rest of Venice. Its fun, beautiful, historic, and shouldn't be missed. And best of all, at the Ghetto bridge you can find Chiara - Venice's great and only working female Gondolier! She is passionate about Cannaregio and...More

Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby

Hi. I’ve been in Venice two months ago and also stayed in Cannaregio . The best thing of staying there is that you are 5m on foot from the Fondamenta nove, where you can board in a boat that can take you to the islands. I’ve... More

One more thought. For Christmas eve it may be very advisable to reserve a dinner in a restaurant (and see through internet if it is open). Otherwise it may happen that you will not find any place available. All can be fully... More
